Since the C's don't line up I would assume this is a fake?

It's an Optic pattern and Optics along with a few other patterns DON'T follow those "Rules" everyone always quotes. There are a lot of exceptions including a ton of new Tartan items available at the outlets. Please don't ever use those Rules (especially if you found them at Ebay or some other site on the internet) to tell you if something's real or fake. Almost every single internet "Rule" is either wrong, outdated, or has exceptions. DON'T use them.

Comments:There are a few of these on ebay, but since I am new to the brand, and these are not on the Coach or Macy's or Lord and Taylor sites I assume it is an older season... or fake.

I don't understand - what makes you think they're fake? Just because they're not on Coach's website?

Don't EVER assume a bag is fake because of that! Only items CURRENTLY IN STOCK AND AVAILABLE AT THE FULL-PRICE STORES - NOT the outlets - WILL BE ON COACH'S WEBSITE! Bags that are out of stock or made for the outlets/Factory Stores which this one WAS, will NOT be on any website!

Wherever you're getting the information on telling real from fake, it's wrong and needs to be ignored. Please DON'T report any fakes to Ebay.

You may also want to check Ebay for other bags in the same style number before wondering if something's fake because you can't find a record of it. There are 12 bags in the same style number on Ebay, which usually means they've recently been at the outlets. Also the style numbers on the creeds begin with "F" which means it was made for the outlets.

Sorry for shouting, but you're getting some really bad information somewhere and you need to be aware of it.

Hi Ladies,

I am new(ish) to the forum. This is my first post but I have lurked around here for a while. At any rate, my mother was at the factory this weekend and she saw a bag behind the counter that the SA described as being "a boutique bag and a very limited edition bag that was only available at two boutique's in Georgia, Lenox Square and The Mall of Georgia" (both mall's are a considerable distance from the particular factory that my mother was at.) My mother said she had never seen one like it before and when I asked her about it she described it as a "variant blue leather bag with wavy diagonal-type stripes." She said that the SA never offered to let her see the bag or anything so she assumed that she was holding it for someone; however, I have my assumptions.

Mom said the bag had the same basic shape as my Sophia so I started to look on the internet for "coach, blue leather, stripe." Well, I came up with a lot of Heritage line and Signature stripe - none of which was correct. And then, I came across the bag in the picture. I showed it to her and she nearly jumped out of her skin. She said this was the bag that she had seen at the outlet. I had to break the news to her that this particular bag was fake. I have only purchased one bag from the outlet so I have a few questions. The first question is how easy is it for fake bags to be sold at the outlet? Does it happen often? Last, is there a real version of this bag? Personally, I find it atrocious. My mom seems to like it.

Any help would be great. Also, if this is the wrong place for this, I apologize.

There IS a genuine style that looks similar at first glance to the photo of the fake you found but there are some obvious differences including the straps, the quality of the workmanship, the details of the Carriage plaque, etc. The style number of the genuine tote is 12956 (and yes, fakes CAN have correct style numbers) but I don't know the name.

Here's the actual bag and a different style from the same family showing the blue color combination - and BTW, many Factory Store bags are faked, especially recently. They seem to be coming from China mainly through the Philippines and all need to be authenticated:

I appreciate your help. :D

And you are right, that if the bag is not on the site that just means that it is an older style and not always a fake. The style just seemed so different that what I have been seeing from the brand.

I read some online references for how to tell what what fake Coach on ebay. Some of them were from this very forum! Maybe they do need to be updated, because I had read many of the same ideas/suggestions on many sites.

If they were older posts they could be either out of date or just wrong. You also have to understand that for almost any "Rule" that someone quotes, there are always going to be exceptions.

The more recent posts in the Answers To Authenticity Questions are probably more accurate,
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/answers-to-authenticity-questions-94198.html
but no has ever created a definitive guide to real and fake Coaches. There are plenty of things that can raise red flags, but every bag needs to be evaluated by someone familiar with that style and with the fakes that try to match it. And some of the details we use to determine authenticity aren't published here or anywhere else because knowing them would just help the counterfeiters make better fakes.

We try to keep information as accurate as possible, but almost every other "buying guide" on the interenet or on Ebay is just a Copy & Paste of someone else's guide, almost none have ever actually been researched over the years. The same blatant mistakes and misinformation just keep getting passed on and get more confused or outdated with every retelling. It's like that game that kids used to play where you make up a rumor and whisper it to a friend who whispers it to another friend, etc. By the time it's gone all the way around it doesn't bear any resemblance at all to the original rumor.

So every "rule" you read, even here, can have exceptions or just plain be outdated. Coach design and styling details change constantly. The only thing about Coach that's consistent is their inconsistency.

I am guessing this is a fake because it has # 9927 and does not look like a Willis bag.

Thanks.

Thank you both :)
It was a bit more than I wanted to spend since I paid less for both of my bags than I did on that wallet, but I don't live close to any outlet or store so that is how I'm justifying the purchase LOL! Plus I might get it close to my birthday so it will be my early b-day present to myself :p
Thank you, BeenBurned!

You're welcome.
