Someone is selling this purse locally and I'm really interested in buying it. However, after looking online and typing in the serial number L05M-126, I have found other people using that same serial number. Not sure if this is the fake or not.

But why shouldn't other purses not have the same serial number? Since 1994, all bags with the same style number code made at the same plant in the same month and year will have the same serial number. That doesn't prove the bag is genuine, but it's not the sign of a fake either unless the bags are different styles.

Coach used that black metal plaque in the 1970's and it's one of their older "marks".

The bag looks similar to one I've seen before but I no longer have the pictures. It "could" be a Bonnie Cashin for Coach design.

It also confuses me about the placement of that plaque. I've never seen it on the outside of any of the older bags. Unless it fell off and someone re-attached it in the wrong place.

:thinkin:

Many thanks for your very helpful comments.

About the placement of the label -- I've got a photo of the inside of the bag. It looks like the original location of the metal label. Since there is no lining or internal pocket there isn't much choice of where to put a label. The bag is so minimal its almost like there's no "hiding" place for a label.

Other strange things about this bag -- the strap shows the inside side for part of the length and the two halves of the bag, front and back, are not an exact match. There are no internal tags or labels.

Again, many thanks for your expert advice.

It looks okay but you might want to ask the seller for the dimensions. Even though she uses unusual props to show the scale, actual measurements should be included.

Thank you. I did ask and about guaranteeing if it was authentic and she said she bought it at the coach store, but she could not guarantee it was authentic and did not accept returns. :amuse:

I would appreciate some help on verifying this item. Thank you.

Ugh! If she bought it from a Coach store, then why can't she guarantee authenticity? That makes no sense!

Just FYI, asking about "guaranteeing authenticity" really doesn't mean much because most sellers who knowingly sell fakes will also knowingly lie about authenticity. Sellers of fakes will often offer money back guarantees of authenticity assuming that buyers would conclude that no seller will make that promise if it's not true.

The fact is that selling fakes is illegal and a "no return" policy means nothing if you buy a fake. In the case of counterfeit goods, ebay and paypal will rule in favor of the buyer and sometimes even order the buyer to destroy the item before they issue a refund.

I'm thinking of bidding on this item on ebay. The seller has a good feedback rating but when I compared the picture of the bag on the actual coach website, there's a difference in the placement of the C's. Can you please help me authenticate this. Please see the information below:

The bag is authentic.

As Hyacinth pointed out, Coach serial numbers haven't been "unique" in 16 years. Since 1994, serial numbers are in two parts. The first part of the serial number consists of the month, year and factory code. The second half of the serial number is the style number.

The bag in question was made is November, 2005 and is style number 126. All bags of that style that were made in the same month, year and factory will have the same serial number.

It looks good, though there should be a picture of the creed. The placement of the C's will not be exactly the same on every bag. There will be variation due the way the piece of fabric was cut and sewn together on each bag.

You're welcome.

This listing looks good.

Thanks so much! I won the bag and it's on the way to my country. I am so excited!!!! Just one more question, have you ever come across full leather Coach Hampton handbags? I love the Hampton style and considering getting a few more from ebay. The Coach stores don't have this style in my country. What are the key things I should be looking for to identify real from fake? If you are too busy to answer that's ok. I will have to post the listings that I am interested anyway. Thanks again for your help

Off the top of my head the only zipper pulls I can think of with Coach logos are on the original Sonomas and related styles, and the zipper pull is a small metal copy of the hangtag. There may have been others though.
Thanks for your help Hyacinth and BeenBurned. I found two leather makeup cases and thanks you gals I know what I am looking at!! Happy Thanksgiving Ladies!!
