Hi Ladies,

Can you please help authenticate these vintage bags? Thanks!

All genuine.

It's hard to say for sure without measurements but the first looks like a Basic Bag, the second is probably one of the Slim Satchels, and the last one is a Scout Bag. The first two are from the early to mid-1980s and the last one from around 1990-91.

Thank you!! Just bought these (+one more) and am about to start rehabing them. It's nice to know a bit more about them.

I have been hitting the thrift stores hard lately. One of these I picked up a while ago.. the others are rather new. I'm pretty sure about two of them... but the blue one? Not so much.

Here is the blue. Bought it because it will make an awesome knitting project bag. It was 1.99 so a deal even if fake. Please excuse my cat, he loves bags almost as much as the people on this forum!
It is a sack style, with a snapping strap to close it. Leather is soft and feels like Coach should. I don't have a ruler at hand to measure, but half my cat fit very nicely. Long shoulder strap, heavy brass metal. If it doesn't show, there is a outlet make on the tag and the serial is: L7 Z-4156

The grey. It has had the zipper replaced. The replacement was done with the addition of leather in the seam. This gal has the old school glovehide heavy leather and nickel buckles. The serial is:F9N-9997

And lastly, my favorite of the three. This one feels like a calf skin or a thinner, buttersoft leather. I can scrunch it up in my hand it is so soft. Note, the dime on the tag is mine...it's a sort of good luck charm. Outlet marked, serial is L2Z-9136. Sorry about the one picture, I did not realize it was a little blurry. I can get a better one tomorrow.

As always, thanks for any and all details!

...Has anyone been able to get dust bags from Coach? I have three vintage bags now and no place to store them! I was wondering if Coach would send dust bags like they do hang tags or if I would be able to get them in store maybe for a small fee? I would like to have official dust bags for them but if not I will just make my own white ones or something instead of paying the ridiculous prices on ebay.

No, Coach doesn't send replacement dust bags, in fact they can be stingy with their dustbags! You can find them for sale on Bonanza but they usually are expensive. I just use old pillow cases to store bags without dustbags. A TPFer (Profashionista?) recommended bags made by the ebay vendor below, but I haven't purchased any from her yet.

Are the photos the seller sent you the same size as what you posted? They're much too small to see any details, unfortunately. You need to save them to your computer full-size and either upload them to a free service like Photobucket, or make sure they're less than 195 kb and use the "manage attatchments" link to shrink them to thumbnail size.
Thank you again Hyacinth for your help. I"ll try to figure it out somehow.

That's what my coach SA recommends - just just use old pillow cases. I, myself, find rooting through pillow cases annoying, so I store mine in plastic, see through bins. And, being the OCC that I am, by style and color. It is so much easier to find the bag I'm looking for. If you don't have the storage room for bins, you could always use the plastic bags designed for "under the bed" storage - I buy mine for $1 each at a bargain store.

Of course, not everyone is as obsessed with Coach as I am. (I've picked up 5 more since my last reveal!)

NEVER store leather in plastic. Leather needs to "breathe". The leather will dry out or WORSE, if there is any moisture, it will get mold and mildew.

Use any sort of pillow case or "cheap to buy" flannel dust bags, but never plastic of ANY kind.

All genuine. First is a Soho Belted Pouch from 1997, second a Legacy Small Zip from 1999, and the last is a Legacy Small Pocket Zip from 2002.

Or if you absolutely have to use plastic bins because of space considerations, line them with some sort of absorbent fabric, like plain white cotton mens t-shirts or terrycloth towels (buy them in bulk at Costco or Sams Club), and keep a few of those little moisture-absorbing silica pacs in with them but not touching the bags. Try to always keep the lids slightly open and try not to let the bags touch the plastic, and keep the bags wrapped in dustbags, pillowcases, towels, or t-shirts, whatever is available. And always give them several days at least to dry completely after conditioning them.

If you live in a humid climate though, it's better to find another way to store your bags.

I knew it was a long shot LOL! I guess I have a summer project for my bags. Wonder why they don't sell them for a small fee?

I don't have a ton of bags (3 coach, 2 betsey johnson, 1 steve madden, 1 esprit, and a few non branded bags). I store them in one of those storage ottoman type things at the end of my bed. I also store all my wallet/belts/winter items in there too because I have no storage whatsoever in my room. Seasonally I take out the bags I switch between and leave them on top of the ottoman so I can remember to use them! I have all my crossbody bags out for summer because if I didn't I would get lazy and use the same bag the whole time because I won't want to dig through the trunk for a different one in the morning. I want to be able to protect them from dust and sunlight and it's easier to take them out of a bag then dig through a trunk full of stuff. I can't store things under my bed because that is where my shoe collection lives. :p
