Sorry if I'm out of place with this - but I have a question. If I see a coach purse on Etsy that says it's "vintage" - does 2002 count as vintage? Just trying to be certain that I'm aging the purse correctly since it says vintage and Etsy says vintage must be 20+ years.

Thanks if you can understand what I'm asking and give me a definitive answer. I can link to the listing if need be.
2002 is not vintage. To be vintage on etsy a bag needs have been made in 1996 or earlier. It says that when you go to list a bag on etsy, so sellers do know this.

Etsy is well-known for ignoring that "vintage means at least 20 years old" rule when it suits them, which is most of the time. Every source I'm familiar with accepts the 20-year old age limit as the standard for the "vintage" designation for handbags.

Within the last year or so I sent several reports to them about a seller who was repeatedly not only violating the "vintage" rule for mass-manufactured items, but who was also selling counterfeit Coaches including a full explanation of what was wrong with each item and why, and my reports were ignored. That seller is STILL selling fake Coaches on Etsy, and lying about the age of many others including referring to many as "Bonnie Cashin" when they had no connection to her and often weren't even designed or made until DECADES after Cashin parted company with Coach, and even years after her death in 2000.

Some of the sneakier sellers know that (including one who's been mentioned here many times) and, if they know how to read a Coach serial number to get the date code, will blur or completely leave out any photos of the serial number showing the date. There's NO enforcement of that rule, just like there's no real enforcement of the "handmade" requirement, which is why many long-time Etsy sellers are up in arms about Etsy allowing a flood of Chinese sellers who are dumping all kinds of mass-manufactured items there. Some sellers have even found ripoffs and counterfeits of their own trademarked copyrighted designs being sold by Chinese vendors.

Etsy ain't what it used to be, unfortunately. While you can still find some great handmade, unique, or limited-manufacture items, buyers need to be very careful and make sure thy're dealing with an honest seller who's actually selling what's described.

Thank you. Since the less than honest seller describing a purse as "vintage" I now see has posted in this thread - and their remarks here were a pretty big indicator of how they operate - I'll steer clear of any "vintage" coach purses on Etsy. Especially one from 2002.

I don't think it is fair to condemn every seller on etsy just because some people don't follow the rules. Not every seller on Etsy is bad. Just like on ebay and any other venue there are good and bad sellers. Just get everything authenticated and you'll be fine.

1. authentic
2. authentic MFF lanyard
3. shoes are authentic but I don't believe they're very old - I'm guessing but I think they're from about 5 years ago.
4. mini sig zip around accordian wallet, possibly style 2348 from 2005 (described as "new" in Feb. 2005
5. mini sig checkbook insert (I believe this came from a checkbook wallet from the same era as the accordian wallet but I can't find a style number. I don't think it was sold separately without the rest of the wallet)

The following is the zip around from the wayback:

Correction: I found that Coach did make a checkbook cover in a similar style of mini sig pattern so I'm guessing yours was sold separately too but I can't find a style number in the color that yours is.

This is the same item that came in black and khaki, style 3412. (The same black/khaki accordian wallet was style 5857.)

Can I get some input? This is listed by a seller with 100% feedback as a NWT bag. I am told it was not too long ago for sale at outlet online and elsewhere, so I am assuming she probably got it there.

If it's authentic I am going to buy it, it's identical to the bag my MIL owned that was stolen, and I am told by coach they are NOT re-releasing the actual classics this year, as planned, just Stuart Vever's "modern takes" on them.

Ok, those didn't attach right... try again!
