Does any one know of some one that authenticates for free? I just lost my gal that did this for me and am now with out anyone to help me to be sure I only sell authentic on line. I just had a bag tossed off of where I listed it and I had researched the coach bag prior to listing and thought it was authentic or I never would of posted it. So, I am not so good at doing this my self. I would never intentionally sell a fake bag and try to push it off as real!!!!!!!!!!! Is this the right spot to ask this?

We authenticate for free. You can't post a link to your listing but you can post pictures before you list it here. Read the first post in this thread to see what information we need.
If I'm understanding your question correctly, I'm reading that your listing was removed so you couldn't post the link anyway.

Here in Coach, we will authenticate sellers' bags if pictures only are posted. Don't post your seller ID or mention "selling" as that can be construed as advertising.

Each brand's subforum has its own rules and some won't authenticate for sellers.

You're welcome.

Almost all thrift stores in California are overpriced. I'm in central California where they have no reason to be snobby but they are anyway. I've gotten a few things at somewhat reasonable prices in San Jose and Sacramento, and in Southern California, outside of LA and San Diego. LA is terrible for thrift stores but the valley isn't that bad. It's nothing like the South and parts of the East though. I got a Coach purse for 50 cents in Georgia! In California a good deal is under $30.

Man, if I could road trip through the dirty south, and hit every thrift along the way...I wanna punch myself in the face for being too young and ignorant to thrift in FL when I was there, it's where rich people go to die, and leave all their great stuff. Sometimes I self flagellate and browse Tampa CL, then cry myself to sleep ;-)

This bag has that questionable J8H prefix, and I see a few other issues. Just want to confirm with the experts before I report.

Thanks!
It's fake. And do you see that border around the serial number? That's another red flag.

ETA: Fancycloset sells enough designer items that she should know what to show to reassure her buyers that her items are authentic. But it appears that in many listings, inadequate and blurry pictures prevent that.

I'd like to hear an opinion on this bag from fancycloset. I'm not at all comfortable with it!

Thanks BB. I saw the frame around the serial as well. There's a bid on this one, so I'm off to report. Not that eBay has been removing much of anything lately.

Definitely different fonts in the serial numbers. Also the authentic serial number has two hyphens in it, the other serial number only has one.

Definitely fake. That font is always fake. I believe I see silver grommets.

That one's fake too.

The D plant used the old "classic" font in their serial numbers in 2000 but changed it slightly around mid-year or else the old individual numbers especially in the style number section finally just wore out and began to be replaced as needed. The replacements were similar to the old numbers but not quite as square, and it looks like they were cobbled together from other stamps because I've seen a few with 2 slightly different versions of the number 9 used in the style number.

But the one you asked about in your post doesn't match either of those sets of numbers and letters - since the month code is for March it should match the classic D plant font and isn't even close. The cartouche is barely visible, and it looks like the strap has brass buckles and silver grommets. It would be nice to be able to see the entire length of the inside pocket zipper but even without that I'm sure that bag is fake.

Thanks. Off to report both.

Catbird9, just FYI - PLEASE don't use that detail when trying to authenticate D plant bags made in 2000. That extra hyphen WAS used in many genuine D plant bags in 2000, along with the regular one-hyphen version.

Sorry if I'm out of place with this - but I have a question. If I see a coach purse on Etsy that says it's "vintage" - does 2002 count as vintage? Just trying to be certain that I'm aging the purse correctly since it says vintage and Etsy says vintage must be 20+ years.

Thanks if you can understand what I'm asking and give me a definitive answer. I can link to the listing if need be.
