Hi again!
Just curious, there seem to be quite a few bags with the prefix D6J that have the correct style number after..

It just seems like a lot of effort for (I assume one specific group of) counterfeiters to go through to make soooooo many different styles, that all seem to be authentic with the exception for the plant code.

Here are some:

While looking for other styles I found this cached set of posts from tPF where it was mentioned that J was used as a clothing plant which would make sense for the following leather jacket:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-D6J-0964-BROWN-SUEDE-COAT-SIZE-SMALL-8-10-/131255664084

I don't know enough about catalog years to know if all of these bags were available in 1996 (and of course there could be other problems with the bags as well), but IF THEY WERE would we have to assume that all of them are fake based solely on the J plant code?

Finally, this is a bag I saw posted in the Hall of Shame, which is what prompted me to look into this further.. Barring the fact that she listed it as Bonnie Cashin from the 80's etc. what else about THIS specific bag would set off the "fake alarms" besides the J plant code? I know this seller has dubious credentials which is why I mention this bag specifically.

The more I learn the more it seems like Coach's motto is "The rules are there are no rules."

My comments are in CAPS I hope these prove what we're already said.

And you're close, but Coach's official motto is "The only consistent thing about Coach is our inconsistency"

You're REALLY determined to make us spend our entire morning on the day before Thanksgiving reporting fake bags, aren't you? :D

One last comparison - the REAL serial number stamp from the clothing plant for the Beresford Coat vs. the fake serial number stamp (most of the fake numbers use the same font too) found in all the D6J- bags you posted:

Once again we'll remind everyone - DON'T EVER EXPECT A SELLER TO KNOW OR POST THE CORRECT NAME OR STYLE NUMBER (or to know or post when it was made or who designed it, or what "vintage" actually means)

It's NOT a Penny, it's NOT a 9755 Pocket Purse either. It MIGHT be a City Bag but Coach gives the City Bag measurements as 11x7, the seller says this is 8x10. Whatever it is, it's genuine, made in 1987. At least the seller posted the right time period.

Always thankful for all advices and thanks Hyacinth for helping me authenticate. ;)

Coach Court bag?

https://www.thredup.com/product/women-coach-brown-small-accessory/10939437

The bag measures 9.25 "x 8.25 "x 3"
Creed: E6G 9870 Made in the United States

I bought this bag from Thredup--an consignment company. I have purchased authentic things from the company before, but this bag is giving me pause. What is concerning to me is that creed is so lightly stamped that I am having trouble reading it, the stitching is sloppy in places, the inside of one pocket has a gap in the leather at the bottom, and the zipper pull is different from my other older Coach bags. I would appreciate any help in authenticating this, as I am just going by gut instinct on thinking it may not be authentic.

Thank you!

Please wait for other opinions but I don't believe that bag is authentic.

Compare your creed to this one from the same plant 2 months later. The text is different and the font is wrong:
Yours:

Compare:

And another from same year and plant:

I agree with BeenBurned. The serial number font is completely wrong for that plant and date. Also the way the inside pocket zipper is sewn in doesn't look or "feel" right. But the font and poor stamping are more than enough to prove it's not genuine.

Comments: I have not seen one like this before, I like it although not sure about the lose of brass on the front. TIA as usual.

It's genuine. The only description I've found is "Cashin Courier Metal Tab bag from the late 60s". Maybe someone else might have more information.

Thanks Hyacinth!!!

That's such a disappointment about all of those fake bags! Whoever is responsible for them should probably direct their hard work toward something more beneficial to society.
Thankfully I only source my vintage and classic style bags for low cost from various thrift stores and flea markets, so there are bound to be some dirt clods in a sea of gems!

I must admit this investigation into Coach history and authentication is fun and quite addictive! I'll probably be posting some questions about my other bags soon.. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hi, please authenticate. I thrifted a bunch of bags for $10 a piece; hoping they are OK. There was a sale and I went a little nuts. Thanks in advance.

This bag looks like a city bag but it is small -- 9 inches long by 6.5 high. The strap is 48 in. unbuckled.

This looks to be a Watson. Style # is 9981

This Patty was too good to pass up for $10. Hard to read creed. A6D-9951. Would that mean she was made in 1996?

All look fine. The first is a compartment bag 9850. The Patricia was made in 1996; you are correct.

1- genuine, read the description carefully. It mentions pen marks, stains and verdigris The pictures aren't clear enough to identify it.

2- Tribeca Convertible Clutch
3- no creed photo.
