Hi Authenticators, I recently purchased this yellow purse -

Item: Leather Shoulder Bag
Listing number: CCH71194
Seller and site where listed: The Real Real
Link: https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/handbags/shoulder-bags/coach-leather-shoulder-bag-pbm7i
Comments: There is no serial number - I think it is a "small leather good", but are you please able to confirm its authenticity, and let me know what this style is called? Thank you again!
I can't look at items on TRR without creating an account. Can you post pictures?

It's fake. It is illegal to sell fakes so the thrift store should give you your money back.
Thank you so much for your response, I’m beyond relieved that I checked in with the fine folks here - who so kindly lend their sharp eyes and time to us who are still learning - before undertaking the whole cleaning/restoration process. Should I really take it back to the thrift store? I don’t want to be confrontational, but if they’re supposed to refund me (and hopefully they’ll destroy it) then I would like my money back…

There is absolutely no question that the bag you bought the following seller is fake.
Etsy Seller

Poshmark seller emilyannw

Instagram seller foxriverfinds -

If she refuses to give you a full refund of every penny you paid, file a dispute with your payment method.

Please refer the seller to this post if necessary. She is wrong! She sold you a fake and she needs to own her mistake.

ETA - the following posts both state that the bag is fake:

Thank you, BeenBurned.

The seller did process a full refund and maintains that the bag is authentic and the listing is currently live again on Etsy. She also found these messages and said she will report me for sharing out messages and falsely claiming that the bag is counterfeit.

She has provided the following screenshot from this link as her evidence. It actually does state in the editor's notes that it was made in 1990, though it is directly contradicting Coach's own website for this link. I've searched through Coach's catalogs from 1990 and onward, as well as this Vintage Coach Bag Database, and have never seen this before the year 2000. I'm confused. :confused1:

The date of manufacture isn't as obvious an issue as the font of the creed number. Even if the date of manufacture wasn't an issue, the creed is still fake.

Definitely I would take it back. They shouldn't take advantage of people, even if they are a charity. They still have to follow the law.

It’s the -06 attachment. The catalog pic would indicate it was a new offering in the 2000 for the holidays.
God, I love a paper trail. And the vintage catalog thread.
Yes, thanks for the references! 🫶
I used the photo forom this thread and sent it to the seller to show her that it was a new style but she insisted that the bag is authentic. The catalog mentions the bag came in Vicuna and never mentions Camel. I'm also in a Vintage Coach bag FB group and have seen so many Camel colored 9085s and am very confused about those too. Is it possible the bags did come in Camel at some point in time?

We don't rely completely on catalogs for colors. Some colors never made it into catalogs. Also, things made for the outlet don't appear in a catalog.

I purchased this Coach Swing Bag from my local City Mission thrift store for $8.99. It was originally priced at $21.99; I pointed out a few key details to the store manager that had me worried about its authenticity - the signature pattern both inside and outside, the plastic-y feel of the lining, the weird spacing of the word “the” on the Creed patch, the lack of style or production code on the creed patch, the not perfect stitching on creed, the brass O rings having a break - that I think the manager assumed I shared with her in an attempt to get the bag for free. She *****ily stated that $8.99 was the lowest she’d go (so obviously, removing it from the floor wasn’t an option she’s considering), and tbh the hardware does have ‘Coach’ engraved, the leather strap is REALLY nice, and there’s 1941/USA on the creed, so I reasoned to myself that it was my civic duty to buy the bag and sort it out later.
Well I cannot find this exact bag online, anywhere; lots of variations, nothing that looks exactly like it. Lacking any numbers of any kind (I’ve looked extensively in the pockets, at the seams, turned lining inside out, etc) to distinguish well anything further complicated things. I’m asking for help both to ID the specific model of Swing bag (which hopefully will also provide age context) as well as to authenticate it. Thank you in advance!

I would take it back too and if they don't do refunds, tell them you want to exchange it for something else.

Many thrifts will just put it back out on the selling floor either because they don't know the law or because they just don't care.

But for you, you were smart enough to ask about authenticity and you don't want a fake.
