ITEM NOT LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Coach City Bag Purchased on eBay. Was told it was not authentic due to the Y in the creed on another thread but want to verify in correct thread. Also, store told me early 90’s bags had the Y, is this true? I cannot find anything about that online. Do you see anything else about this bag that makes it not authentic so that I can know for the future? It seems that all the bags online look just like this one and now once I return this one I’m concerned I’ll get another fake.

Thank you.

eBay deleted the listing after I requested a refund so I cannot post it. Here’s a screen shot of it. Seller is toplineg. It looks like their other coach items are authentic. I don’t think they were trying to be deceptive. They told me it was real even when I told them I didn’t think it was. Waiting on 100% clarification before I push for the return because at this point they haven’t sent me a return label.

@whateve
The listing was posted on the Hall of Shame yesterday -- the following is @cmcgaird's post followed by my reply.

@cmcgalrd
Feel free to hit the return button for a full refund. Unless the seller can get a refund from her own place of purchase, it would be a waste of money to pay return shipping on a bag she can't legally resell. She should just issue a full refund and let you dispose of the fake.

If the seller still believes it's authentic, you can refer her here.

Yes that’s what I was thinking and I sure hope she doesn’t try to re-list. She still hasn’t sent me a shipping label though and I asked for one earlier today.

Could you share what makes it fake other than the code? Are there other things that prove it is fake that you see on the bag? I’m not wanting to have this issue again. I did ask for clarification on the other thread and was referred here. Thank you.

There shouldn't be a "solid brass" stamp on the buckles. The inside color should be very close to the color of the exterior.

Also, Y is never a valid month code.

Did you actually open a claim/return request or did you just email the seller? Once you open the claim, if the seller doesn't respond with either a refund (wihtout return) or a shipping label (if she wants it back), you can go back to the request on day 4 and ask ebay to step in.

Opened a return request which the seller approved and eBay deleted the listing because I reported it as not authentic. But, the seller hasn’t sent me a return label. It just says to box it up and return to her. I’m not paying return shipping. So, I guess I’ll wait until day 4 then and contact eBay. Does this screen shot look correct?

There should be an attachment with a return shipping label. Is it there?

Hi! Thanks for the update and for your assistance!!! 🫶

Unfortunately, the seller came back to me with the following message insisting that the listing is authentic and that Coach's website states that the style 9058 was made in the 90s and just didn't appear in catalogs lol:

"Thank you for your message and for reaching out promptly.

I want to reassure you that the Coach bag in question—style 9058 stamped B6D—is authentic. This particular style number and creed format are consistent with Coach’s manufacturing system from the 1990s. Coach began producing style 9058 well before 2000, though it was not featured in major catalog promotions until later. The date stamped in the creed (April 1996) is standard for this era and style, and does not conflict with its authenticity. Actually, according to the coach website, the Legacy Hobo Bag was first introduced in 1990.

That said, I understand your concerns and the importance of feeling confident in your purchase.

While my shop policies clearly state that all sales are final and items are sold as-is, I am willing to approve a cancellation before the item ships. Because this order was placed, removed from inventory, and held for you, there will be a 15% restocking fee to offset business impacts.
The refund will be processed for the original purchase amount minus that fee once cancellation is confirmed.

I appreciate your understanding, and I hope this resolution is fair to both of us. Small businesses like mine rely on informed, thoughtful buyers, and I always aim to handle these situations with care and professionalism."

I was more firm in my follow-up message to her. She messaged me separately from the Order Help Request, but I made sure to copy and paste both our messages into the help request to update it.

There is zero change that this style was made before 2000, right?! I even found this this link to a Coach (Re)Loved listing for the Vintage Legacy Hobo Bag that clearly states in its description that it was not introduced until 2000. I provided her with the screenshots of the attached photos for evidence that the bag was not produced until 2000 despite her claims.

I did my best to kindly let her know that the bag was counterfeit and I requested the full refund; I gave her the benefit of the doubt initially assuming she did not know it was fake but now I think she doesn't care that it is. I think she fully intends on relisting this bag on her Etsy, her Poshmark, and her Instagram page so someone else can purchase it. 😭

There is absolutely no question that the bag you bought the following seller is fake.
Etsy Seller
Emily White,
Owner of Foxriverfinds

Poshmark seller emilyannw

Instagram seller foxriverfinds -

If she refuses to give you a full refund of every penny you paid, file a dispute with your payment method.

Please refer the seller to this post if necessary. She is wrong! She sold you a fake and she needs to own her mistake.

ETA - the following posts both state that the bag is fake:
