@JB Fletcher
Every time I see your avatar, it brings a smile to my face. I loved that show and never missed it on Sunday nights!

MSW is one of my old faves too. There are at least 2 cable channels here running at least 3 or 4 episodes every day. Except during the Dreaded Christmas and Christmas In June and July Hallmark-style marathons of course.

Jessica must have been one of Coach's regular customers. The City Bag seems to have been her favorite, I've spotted her with at least 5 different colors. If only those Coaches could talk! They knew her deepest darkest secret...

I am new to the Forum and learning the ropes. I am in a waiting period from what I understand to be able to create a new post, but I do have an authentication request. I think tomorrow marks 5 days, and I have been replying/engaging at least 5 times. Should I wait until tomorrow to request, or just hit reply to this thread and insert my request? Sorry for the newbie questions.

It's a genuine Pocket Purse made in 1998. There was no such style as a vintage Penny. The Penny name was apparently used for a "remake" within the last 10 or 15 years but there are no provable earlier versions that I can verify from any actual Coach records or graphics from the earlier time period.
Thank you! And that’s good to know, I got the Penny color from googling the serial number/bag model and lots of listings kept saying this was in the color Penny but it’s good to know that’s not the case!

Be sure to include all the information in the READ ME post, go to the most recent post in this thread and post your request, information and photos in that "write your reply" box. There's no reason to post it as a Reply unless you're actually replying to someone else's post. If you're trying to create a brand new post in another thread, that's your problem.

Penny wasn't a color name either. That's the first time I've seen it used as a color name. Think about it -how many non-USA residents would know what color(s) a penny was? "Penny" was a supposed style name that someone somewhere threw out on the internet and people started to use without verifying the information.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

There seldom are any "telling signs" that a Coach is genuine, and if there are, we don't post them publicly since we're not about to tell the counterfeiters how to make more accurate fakes.

As to how we know - the 3 authenticators here have decades of experience buying, selling and collecting Coaches and we have a combined photo library of probably close to 300,000 photos of both real and fake Coaches. That doesn't include text files, where we all keep descriptions of various details found in both fake and genuine styles as well as interesting information posted by other forum members..

I strongly suggest that you and all the other new members who might see this start with learning some basics of what Coaches should and shouldn't be, Start with the thread titled "SALEAREA GUIDES" posted and Pinned to the top of this Coach Shopping Forum. Read the entire thread.:

Thank you for linking that thread, I'm excited to read it. I just started searching for my little sister's holy grail briefcase as a law school graduation present and I hadn't realized the rabbit hole I'd be going down! I thought I was crushing it when I snagged one of her top five as a backup, but after joining this forum and reading pages and pages of this thread and the Hall of Shame thread I'm less confident that I'll be getting a genuine blue Barclay tote delivered next week 😬 Are there any other resources you'd recommend digging into as a vintage Coach newbie?

You can post the listing/seller ID and pictures if you'd like to find out if it's genuine.

Hi Authenticators, can someone please take a look at what I think is a #7170 case? The color has thrown me off, but I'm hoping it's authentic. In my research of #7170 cases, I see that some cases are embossed on the lower corner, some are not. Ditto the creed patch - some have them, some don't. Any ideas as to why there might have been a variable of these two things? If authentic, is lavender an accurate color name and if so, the year it was available/released? Thanks for any help you can share!

My opinions based on decades of experience:

Too much of what's on the internet is old, outdated, unverified or just plain wrong.

Search engines are bad places to go for accurate up-to-date information. Just because something is linked on Google or other search engines doesn't mean it's genuine or accurate.

Too many for-pay authentication services are totally undependable and basically just scams with clever PR people working for them and claiming that their AI is accurate. It's NOT, and I doubt VERY much if it ever can be.

If I knew of any other dependable sites with trustworthy site management or owners, I'd be posting there as well as here, and I'm not.

It looks good! Great price! In my experience, the creed patches were used on later (90s and later) versions of these. None of them should ever have a serial number. This is probably the same lavender released in the ergo around 1998.

The online listing doesn't have all of the photos requested in the pinned post so I was going to hold off until it arrived. Would it be ok to start with just the listing information and then update with more pictures it if needed once the bag is delivered?

I definitely learned that it's not smart to trust what google spits out, a lot of it just contradicted itself. I've gotten more information in a couple of days on here than I think I ever would have found otherwise! I was curious if there are any specific threads here that you think would be especially helpful, I accidentally spent a few hours looking through the vintage catalog thread when you linked it in another reply and it was a great time.

Hello, I would like to request authentication for this Coach bag.

Brand: Coach
Creed: F6C-9930
Origin: US
Site: Ebay
Seller:Relientkayla
Listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/156025539332?hash=item2453d8cb04:g:rI4AAOSwtFNlsX87

Note: I purchased the bag today, if you scroll down just a bit, the listing is towards the bottom of page. If you can can tell and don't mind speculating, I would love to know what color you think the bag is. Seller says cover photo most resembles the bag. Either Mahogony, or taupe is my guess.

Thank You,
@southernbundles 🌻

Bag is a Coach Murphy - 9930
The bag is authentic, made in 1996.

To my eyes, it looks like mahogany.
