IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

I'm not really sure and don't have a real one to compare it to. There are a few small variations in the creed and serial but that's possible considering the year the bag was made.

Wait for more opinions.
I couldn't quite make out the year..what is it?
I thought that the longer underline under the "No." was a bag sign.
Maybe I am getting paranoid.

No problem. The Rules here can be a bit hard to find sometimes.

You can post your own photos here before the item is listed, or you can post a link to whatever photo site is hosting them.

Thank you enormously for your understanding. I think I managed to resize the photos enough to post them. As the listing has been removed (and I think I'll probably keep the bag anyway because it's awesome), is it possible to request sharing of knowledge from you wonderful authenticators? ;) I'm mostly curious, because the creed didn't bring up anything online, what style of bag this is and its age. Or, if I am being grossly misled in thinking it is authentic. ;)

If so, please do. If not, please disregard. :)

It looks like 2001.

And the long underline under the "o" is ONLY a red flag in certain years and months and from certain plants.. There are a TON of genuine serial numbers with long underlines. That's why each one has to be looked at individually and compared to others with the exact same production codes.

Unless it's a known and publicly posted fake serial number, you shouldn't find any ALL-NUMBER serial numbers on the internet. The all-number serials were unique and every bag had its own number, which is why any duplicates are almost 100 percent sure to be fakes. In mose cases, looking on the internet for bags made before 1994 is a waste of time. Read the Salearea Coach Guides posted at Ebay and you'll get some idea why that's the case. Bookmark or Save the page for future reference:

Please keep in mind that since there's no way to cross-check numbers on older styles and since Coach made many similar bags in different sizes, we usually need measurements any time a bag has an all-numeric serial, or no serial number at all.

If this one measures about 11x10x5 it's probably a Shoulder Pouch, style number 4025 from the Lightweight line and made right around 1990. It's genuine.

Hi - Please check this listing...was going to bid
but now I'm thinking something might be off about the
brown bag?
This seller is usually pretty safe I think, no?

When I look at the creed, I thought the "year" code was an I. I've edited the picture to see if the serial would be more legible.

Does this help?

It would be nice if we could see the creed highlighted with powder. The "i" or whatever it is reminds me of this one from another bag:

I think you're right Hyacinth.
I assume the black creed is from a "good" bag?
That would further back up the authenticity of the one I asked about
since the creeds appear alike.

I'm pretty sure the black one was ok. The 2000 and 2001 "D" plant bags usually had that extra dash in the serial too, and it's probably not something you'd find in fakes. Crooks are creatures of habit.

Noshoepolish really needs to take a look at it.

I'm not happy with the serial number font. And there aren't enough photos of other important details like the Organiser pocket or the back of the turnlock plate. There are probably other details that Shoe might want to see too, like the strap buckles and how they're attached to the rest of the case.

There's another L5H-5180 with exactly the same creed and serial stamp here, but no close-up of the turnlock or any photo of the organiser pocket. Some unusual stretch marks though:

Here's a G5H-4115, probably genuine
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Cogna...c-centipede-/361357731780?hash=item54229967c4

a K5H-5180 with the same serial and creed fonts as the one being authenticated, with a flap that has a LOT of elephant-skin-type stretch marks
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coa...t-Lthr-Mint-/191642742352?hash=item2c9ecc2e50

and a probably OK L5H-4134 Soho Back Sac
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-100-c...ited-States-/141703016434?hash=item20fe286ff2

The *5h-5180 creeds and numbers just don't feel right to me. (There are at least 4 fake 5180s currently listed too, which doesn't help!)
More opinions are welcome.

I'll get some more photos if I can - THanks!

Now this is really ridiculous...Coach needs some serious guidance.
THis is the Margot Cross-Grain Carry All in Birch gray/Chalk
Style 34853...yes I can barely make out the numbers on the end but
can't get a clear photo, sorry!
THe tag is sewn into the very very bottom inside corner of the inside
zippered pocket.
Neither the main lining or the lining or the pocket itself can be pulled inside out,
not even a tiny bit. It is impossible to be able to read the tag without
cutting the seams.
SHEESH!
Will the madness never stop???:pullhair:

I'm not comfortable with it. Since the creed number details have been obscured by the flash, I decided to look at the edges for anomalies. I haven't found an authentic H creed that doesn't have tails on the "N" of "No." There could be problems with the shape of the digits and the spacing and alignment of the numbers but it is difficult to tell in that photo.
