It's not a "Penny" (which isn't even a name of any Coach style). It's a pocket purse and was made in 1997. The M (month code) is okay.
As I said in a previous post, I'm new to vintage coach. I saw many posts online referring to it as penny colloquially so I thought it was a nickname of sorts not something coach formally called it. Not trying to cause confusion, pocket purse it is going forward.

I didn't think you were trying to cause confusion.

Some seller at some point described a "pocket purse" as a "penny pocket" and other sellers (and non-sellers) continued to use that name even though it's not correct.

My point was merely to state that the name of style 9755 is a Pocket purse.

I believe it’s a Coach Legacy Zip Bag, but I do have some doubts on its authenticity. First, when researching its creed, I was seeing that the creed usually reads “completely natural glove-tanned cowhide,” while mine reads “completely natural glove-tanned leather.” Second my “serial number” doesn’t match what I was finding on the internet. I was seeing that most start with three digits, starting with a letter, number, and letter. Mine starts letter, number, and number (M93-9966). Any feedback is appreciated and if it is fake, it’s still a beautiful bag. Thanks

Just out of curiosity, do you know the origin story of how it ended up with the mass faux description? Also, outside of the the wrong name and creed, does the bag look authentic? Sorry for so many questions, I don't want to hog the services you all provide.

It's genuine, made in 1999

While Google is a great tool, it can also be a way that misinformation snowballs.

As I said in my post, at some time, a seller may have written an "authenticity guide" and called style 9755 by the wrong name or they just used incorrect key words in their listings.

Later, other sellers who googled "Coach 9755" saw all the hits for "Penny Pocket" and used that in their listings. Other sellers used "Penny dinky" and in fact, there's a current Pocket purse listing that doesn't even use the correct name, but instead lists it as a Penny Dinky!"

Some sellers know that although using unrelated key words isn't kosher, they do so to try to get more clicks. There was one item that was listed by someone who knows Coach well but listed a Pocket Purse with "dinky," "penny," "messenger" and "clutch" in the title.

We also see the same misuse (intentional or not) with Willis bags (9927), Murphy bags (9930) and Station bags (5130) which have been listed as "Willis Station" or "Willis Murphy" or "Murphy Wilis" or other permutations of the names.

Each time sellers use incorrect names of items, others follow suit, thus resulting in more and more sellers describing items with incorrect names.

The same thing happens with the dozens (or hundreds) of authenticity guides floating around the internet.

There's no vetting of guide authors, no requirement that they have expertise and nothing to stop them from plagiarizing another seller's inaccurate guide. So multiple authenticity guides may contain a mix of correct and incorrect information and unless one knows who the author is and whether the author knows the brand, they shouldn't blindly trust what they've read.

At least one set of guides is updated regularly and is the most accurate of any I've seen anywhere. Those are published on Salearea's Facebook page and written by @Hyacinth (same set on tpf: SaleArea guides)

(Beware of copyccats though. Other authors have copied and pasted the Salearea guides.)

@Xomarcelle , in answer to your question, "does the bag look authentic?" Yes, it is authentic. We never give a name and/or style number to a fake.

Apologies for the long-winded response.

Good evening authenticators. I was browsing for Coach Madison bags and came across this. I don’t plan to buy it due to missing strap but also the creed gave me pause.

I thought month codes only went up to M (for December). But there is an old post in this forum in a Coach Authenticate thread that said another N4E- bag (from Madison collection) was authentic. So now I am wondering if there is a special circumstance with some Made in Italy / Madison collection bags? Or is this actually a fake?

Item: Authentic Vintage Coach Madison Dome HandBag converts to Crossbody/Shoulder/Hand
Listing number:
Seller and site where listed: Mercari, seller named “Treasures”
Link: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m63220023764/
Comments: I don’t think first picture is of the bag itself because the listing says it is missing it’s strap. The other pictures seem to be of the bag for sale. I am including one of those along with the creed photo

It's a genuine Madison Bristol Satchel from 1994.

There have been quite a few genuine bags from the Italy plant with mistakes in the serial numbers. But there also have been a large number of fakes with Made In Italy creeds as well so if anything at all seems odd about an Italy bag, it should be authenticated here.

Again on the subject of fake "Italy" creeds- we even had several examples of obviously fake Italy creeds coupled with what was trying to be a "COACH NEW YORK" stamp on the outside but actually was stamped "COACH NEW VORK" instead. Some very interesting discussions came out of that one, here and elsewhere. I sometimes go back and read them, just for a giggle.
