The creed and serial number look good, but the turnlock isn't right. It looks like maybe it was replaced once, or someone tried to fix the broken lock and messed it up, maybe used a non-Coach replacement?. The back of the "male" half of the turnlock should NOT be covered over. The bag isn't useable with a broken lock.

I don't see the broken tuirnlock mentioned or pictured anywhere in the listing. Did you receive it like that and did the seller ever disclose the damage? If she didn't you may have a valid SNAD claim.

It's hard to tell what was actually done to it or if it can be fixed since I don't do any rehab work. Maybe @whateve or @BeenBurned might know, and might suggest how you should handle this.

THANK YOU, Hyacinth! Your help is priceless.
Beyond the useless turnlock, it feels like it's not that same grade of leather and inside the zipper pocket it's lined(?) or backed in something white. If it's not real- I'd like to make the seller take it back. The stitching seems messy, too, unlike the others I have.

Are the creed stamp and serial number EXACTLY the same as in the seller's photo? There's definitely a problem but let's wait for Whateve and BeenBurned to take a look if they're available.

Hi Authenticators.
I would like your help in authenticating this New York City Bag.

Item: Coach Shoulder Bag
Where purchased or how obtained : Thrift Store
Comments: I am actually very excited when I found this bag! No back pocket. The strap is short around 34-35 inches. I believe this is the shoulder bag 9530. The colour is between dark brown and maroon. Maybe burgundy?

@Hyacinth They are the same, down to the little dents in it.
I agree with @Hyacinth that the bag is authentic but it's definitely "not as described" since onthefox22 didn't make any mention of the male part of the turnlock coming out of the leather.

I don't do more than basic rehab and cleaning so I don't know how much work is involved in fixing the hardware. (Wait for @whateve to comment on that.)

If it's too much work to fix, you can open a return request for "not as described or pictured" and the seller will have 3 options. Seller can:
1. Issue a full refund without requiring the return
2. Accept the return request and pay for a return shipping label for you to send it back
3. Offer a partial refund (which IMO may be worth it if it's an easy fix)

In fact, in this case, I don't think a partial refund request is unreasonable (before opening a return request) since there's definitely non-disclosure of "issues." If this is the route you choose prior to opening a claim, choose the "contact seller" option in the order.

Is this different from the 9993 shopper bag? Why is the style number different? If so, what’s the difference, size maybe?

Im 99 and 44/100ths percent positive that it's a legitimate Coach sample but since we don't know if it ever went into production there's no way to know what it's sample OF. The stamped style number was from whatever bag or briefcase was in the stamping line right before this one.

It's at least the second mid- to later 1990s item I've seen with a "P D SAMPLE" stamp in it and has one other detail that I haven't found in fakes so I believe it's genuine.

HOWEVER - because the style number isn't traceable to this bag it would NOT be a good idea to buy it for resale. Style numbers starting with 52** were used almost exclusively for briefcases and business-type messenger bags. It may have been a sample that inspired style 9993 OR some other Shopper style but some details are probably going to be different. Or maybe it never went into production at all.
