Im 99 and 44/100ths percent positive that it's a legitimate Coach sample but since we don't know if it ever went into production there's no way to know what it's sample OF. The stamped style number was from whatever bag or briefcase was in the stamping line right before this one.

It's at least the second mid- to later 1990s item I've seen with a "P D SAMPLE" stamp in it and has one other detail that I haven't found in fakes so I believe it's genuine.

HOWEVER - because the style number isn't traceable to this bag it would NOT be a good idea to buy it for resale. Style numbers starting with 52** were used almost exclusively for briefcases and business-type messenger bags. It may have been a sample that inspired style 9993 OR some other Shopper style but some details are probably going to be different. Or maybe it never went into production at all.

Thank you for the explanation. I don’t look at purses as investment pieces so I don’t worry about a bag’s resale value. I would like to have it just for its color but not at that price point. I was just curious since it was the first one I’ve seen with that stamp and wanted to learn more so I asked here and you guys never fail to educate.

OK, that's definitely genuine, made in Italy in December 1995.

But that's not the listing I looked at earlier. The link you posted took me to THIS one. Same seller, almost the same style and color, and the serial number that I mentioned in my first reply, E6M-4140 for May 1996 Costa Rica plant.

I wonder if the seller may have mixed up the listings and then corrected it? Or did you make any changes to your original post and maybe changed the link? I noticed you made an edit almost an hour after you posted, maybe your edit and my reply "crossed in the mail"? I was going strictly by the link in your post but it took a while to find and open the photos because I had to switch to a different browser. There doesn't seem to be any other way that could have happened.

ETA - even the endings of the Ebay listing numbers are similar, 59922 compared to 51599.

I apologize for the delayed response! I'm not totally sure what happened, though I am sure the fault lies somewhere with me. I bought the bag, came here, went back and copied a link (obviously not the correct link), which I then posted.

I do know in my eBay purchases is the 4082 marked M5E-4208, and the seller is zizai_01.

I'm excited and appreciate you were able to tell me more about my Soho! December 1995, Italy.

Here are the 10 photos from the listing:

Also, I think I messed up my first post and redid it, though I thought I had the proper link. Sorry for any trouble!

Hello. I am looking for authentication for this Coach purse. I just received it from eBay and it seems fishy. Even my husband thinks it’s not right. Sigh
Link to item listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1656392053...jA9iGufTYa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Measures 10.5” x 9” x 3”
Shoulder strap drop is 21”
Creed stamp says B5C-9927
The lock is broken and not accessible from the back.
Thank you so much!

It looks like there are the little slits where the prongs go through. There should be a flat circle/oval piece that the prongs fold over. That seems to be missing.

Hello! Can someone help me authenticate this little bag? Year? Do we have a catalogue picture?
Thank you
Seller: glampam60

Sorry, my computer can't open the photos so I can't see a creed or serial number to authenticate or identify it. You'll probably have to wait for @whateve.

One thing I CAN say is that if it has a serial or registration number, it's NOT a Cashin-era bag. It probably wouldn't have been made until at least 5 years after Cashin and Coach stopped working together (1974). There's no catalog picture in my files of any bag from the post-Cashin decade with the tubular strap attached on the back like that other than a few very small bags like the Everett Bag from the early 1990s and I just don't have the needed photos of those bags' details OR the measurements of the bag in question to make any kind of judgement and there aren't any measurements in the listing. The shapes aren't quite right either. If it's genuine I don't think it's nearly as old as the seller seems to think it is. "Coaches" bought at estate sales really need to be authenticated.

I'll look through some of my vintage photo folders to see if anything turns up.

ETA - I may have found a possible candidate, give me a few minutes to save a photo...

OK, this one is the right shape and has the right strap that SEEMS to be attached on the back but there's no way to be sure, and no way to be sure the measurements are the same.
NEW in the Spring 1986 catalog, style 9740 Mini Pouch:

9740_Mini Pouch-Spr1986.jpg

It appears again, still "NEW", in the 1986 Summer catalog, and by the Holiday 1986 catalog it's already gone and had been discontinued. No wonder I couldn't remember it. The catalog doesn't show how the strap attaches in the back either. Again, there's no way to prove it's the same bag but it's the only one I've found that fits. It's almost certainly genuine, but 12 years too recent to have been a Cashin-Era style or a Cashin design.

A HUGE "THANK YOU" to @Coachaddict4020 for the Spring 1986 catalog scan! :flowers:

I don't know if it's helpful or not for hints on style number, but I found another bag that looks similar, tubular strap attached to back. THIS listing has dimensions. https://www.tradesy.com/i/coach-dis...urnlock-bone-leather-cross-body-bag/32003013/
