Hi, I just received this bag via a listing on Poshmark. https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-crossbody-k7c9017-61e3bd6d2ca9ab5687158edc My first order of business was to remove the trinkety-ugly hardware and restore the strap where it belongs. Before I get to the real rehab, perhaps I should make sure it's legit. It's an adorable little bag. Is it an Abbie? Authentic? Thank you for an opinion. Size is about 7 inches by 6 inches by 2 inches.

Here's also a better photo of the creed, and how I fixed the hardware.

Thanks, Hyacinth. That's exactly what I thought, but I couldn't figure out why the listings were still there. I had reported both more than once to no effect, so I was starting to wonder if maybe I were wrong after all. Perhaps Mercari's just slow to react? I don't know, but both bags are low-priced and liked by a number of people. I hope none of them get scammed..
I've found that Mercari takes more than one report to act on them but if multiple users report, they do (often) remove the listings.

I've also reported both of
Katieleah's fakes .

It's a genuine Abbie Zip from 1997

Wondering if either of these two JRT keychains are genuine - I've not seen the signature "coat" on the dog before. When I search, there is one noted in the Fake Hall of Fame thread, but it's so old, I am only guessing based on the url address details that it was a similar style since the links are no longer valid. I'm guessing these are fake, but just want to be sure.

Thank you in advance!

The first one with the blue coat is fake. And one of those 2-piece white and brown boxes is a dead giveaway.

I'm going to tag @BeenBurned to look at the second one, she's had a lot of experience with that style and Mercari doesn't work well with my computer

Comments: What’s going on here? I know very little about the vintage bags; only what I have retained from reading this thread. I seem to recall that no authentic Coaches have “C” pattern linings; should there be a lining at all in a style such as this? It’s in bad shape but if it’s genuine and rehabbable, I’d like to give it a shot.

Hello, two requests for authentication at your convenience please, and a question. Thank you!

Item:Coach Willis colorblock
Listing number:138881735
Seller and site where listed Goodwill of South Texas
Link:https://shopgoodwill.com/item/138881735
Comments: This is in rough shape, and the pics alternately look more yellow or cream.

Item: shoulder bag, not sure of style
Listing number:139103205
Seller and site where listed

Comments: The pictures aren't great on this, and there wasn't much of a description.

Question: I have a dinky bag in British Tan that I purchased decades ago at a retail store myself as a teen (I can still remember the thrill of that purchase and the smell of the store, which was mostly/all leather bags!). The creed and the numbers on it were never deeply imprinted and now are quite faded. While I don't have a particular interest in selling or trading it at all right now, I am thinking that if I do at some point, it will be deemed a fake due to this issue. Should I be at all concerned?

!- There's no photo of the creed and serial number in the first one and we have to be able to read that information to authenticate. It also looks like there might be a LOT of color transfer, possibly dye from something denim, and that's almost impossible to remove. Both are serious issues and I can't recommend buying without those creed pics and a closer look at what seems to be color transfer. High gloss leathers like light colored patent leather are especially prone to that kind of damage.

2- Again, no photo of the creed or serial number. I'm not even sure if there IS a creed stamp or patch, I don't see one on the inside and if it doesn't have one there's no way to be sure it's even a Coach. There's absolutely no way I'd recommend buying that one either with what I'm seeing. Or NOT seeing. And I can't understand why a real Coach of that size wouldn't seem to have any inside pockets.

We never NEVER recommend buying a "Coach" without a clear readable creed and serial number photo unless there's a darned good reason why it doesn't have one, such as size or age.

MORE OPINIONS ARE WELCOME

I can't comment on the Dinky without seeing photos, especially of the details listed in the Posting requirements - the READ ME post at the top of each page.

You're only partly correct - Coaches with a C or Logo pattern on the outside that makes up at least half of the bag should never have a C or Logo pattern on the inside, with a tiny handful of exceptions and Rule Stretchers.

It looks genuine but the creed and number aren't easy to read. It was made in 2002 and the style number looks like 9188, Medium Slim Duffle Sac.

Hello, all! Happy Sunday.

I'm looking into replacement hang tags and am wondering about IDing fakes. This Poshmark listing from 1prettybird2, for example, has 3 to choose from, but I don't know where to begin evaluating whether it's worth spending money on any listing's tags, let alone this one's. Apologies if there's a resource for this somewhere that I've missed...

The listing:

Thanks, as always.

Sorry, I don't have any kind of database saved for vintage hangtags. I'll ask @whateve to take a look.

Why thank you Ms. Bucket! ☺️ This poor bag looks in desperate need of rescue.

Ok, thank you -- I have the same questions on the black bag. It's a decent enough looking style, but is it actually a Coach? ::shrug:: don't know.

I understand -- the dinky is 100% authentic, one owner (me). Bought at retail. I recently pulled it out and realized the creed and numbers looked "shallow," but after around 40 years, should I have noticed? I remember registering the bag eons ago, but...

Vintage Coaches often have creed stamps that faded with time. Giving a vintage Coach a bath can affect the creed stamping as well. It's usually not something that would raise questions about a bag's authenticity, it's just a natural process. And the authenticators here have gotten pretty good at reading faded or worn down creeds.

As for that black bag - if it doesn't say Coach anywhere and is less than 40 years old (and that one certainly is) assume that it's NOT a Coach. Coach has been permanently marking or stamping their bags in some way since around 1975. Someone may have just stuck a real or fake Coach hangtag on a generic purse and some clueless employee at Goodwill fell for the scam. It's the second time in the last week that I've seen something like that happen.
