Well, miraculously Mercari ruled in my favor and issued me a refund!

Glad to hear it.

Also, I'm recommending that you read the six Salearea Guides formerly posted at Ebay's Reviews And Guides pages until all member-posted guides were deleted by Ebay in 2018. There's a ton of information about vintage Coach including how to translate Coach serial numbers, a history of the numbers and creeds, red flags to watch out for that might indicate a fake, and a pretty complete list of some of the worst and most INaccurate "rules" and nonsense found in almost all other online "Coach" guides. Don't try to absorb everything in the Salearea Guides at once, the history of vintage and classic Coach products is complicated and details changed every few years so just being able to accurately analyze a Coach date code can be critically important.

The first 13 posts are general background and most of the links in those posts no longer work. There's also a pretty accurate list called the Daria48 Fake Coach Numbers List immediately after, and updates to the info in both guides are included in the rest of that thread. Many of the questions that collectors new to Coach often ask are answered right in those Guides.

Is this authentic? Doesn’t say 9927 in the serial number and says Made in Italy.
Well it must be real! After I posted this it got 7 bids!!!
It's authentic. It was made before 1994, which is why it doesn't have the style number in the creed. I would never assume something is real just because it has multiple bids. Recently I asked someone for a picture of a creed, then realized the item was fake. After I reported the listing but before it was removed, someone bought it. Sometimes people assume that if it has a creed, no matter what it looks like, it is authentic.

The exact same Willis was just asked about on Sunday. If the poster who asked the first question had included the seller's name in her post, it would have shown up in a simple tPF search.

I replied in the next post:

This is just one of the reasons why we REQUIRE that the seller's name be included in all authentication requests.

regarding my advice to read the Salearea Guides and my statement in that earlier post that:

Hello, first time posting here. I just made the purchase and found out about this website. Thanks so much for the service! Here's the item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363546846109, but if you click " See original listing " the pictures will be shown. It's a Madison Carlely. Seller name is sassyabby. I haven't received the bag yet so using their pictures.Thanks.

It's an authentic Madison Carlyle made in 1996. The color could be caramel.

A present for me. Hoping it's legit. I've been bidding on some of the vintage coach Stewardess bags on online auctions recently and not winning them. (Too much money.) Today I sauntered into my local thrift store and there is THIS bag for $35. Boom. This is the world manifesting for me, it wants me to have a stewardess bag. I hope this is one. I'll trust the expert eyes. Gorgeous bag, and great condition. Measures about 11 inches by 10 inches by 4.5 inches. PS: In all these photos, the color is "off." I think it may be "British Tan," it's warm light brown.

Hi there, that was me on Sunday with the Italian Willis. My apologies for not posting the seller's name, it's been so long since I purchased the bag a year ago. But just wanted to point out the serial number on mine and the one listed on Ebay are different, so even though it looks identical (black Willis made in Italy), it is actually not the same bag.

Next time I'll do better in following directions. Thanks again for your service! L

Hi Authenticators,
Could you please check this bag for me? It looks and feels like a small legacy flap but I've never seen a hairy strap like this one. Ps. Did you notice I didn't call it a trail bag. ;) Thanks again for your help.

FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Coach E8C-9965 (1998?)
Where purchased: Local Goodwill

Yikes! My apologies! Same serial font, different serial numbers.
