Welcome to tPF!

I don't see any strap problems. If you mean the overlap near the end where two lengths of piping or edging was sewn together, that's normal on vintage and older Coaches.

The bag is genuine and vintage and could be a Classic Shoulder Bag, style number 9170, probably from the early to middle 1980s.

You have fantastically made my day!!
Thank you for your time.

I will honor it as my first and genuine Coach bag.

You found a good one to start with. :smile1:

The original version was called a Classic Pouch and was one of the early Coach bags, the style goes back to at least 1970. (Coach didn't actually start making purses until the early 1960s). The company was founded in 1941 but in the beginning made small leather goods, not handbags.

There's an interesting look at Coach's early history here:
http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/coach-inc-history/

Also keep this in mind - older Coaches WERE faked, and sometimes faked pretty well. So always ask for authentication here BEFORE you buy, if possible.

And if you're looking for more reading matter, there are several lists and guides that I and other forum members have contributed to that might clear up some questions as you get deeper into the brand.

Thank you! I agree with Hyacinth that the creed looks correct.

Having the strap attached to the back must make the bag tip forward. I love the cute turnlocks but I imagine it would be a pain if you had to undo them every time you wanted to get inside the bag.
Actually you can still access the interior without opening the turn locks,
but opening at least one makes it easier.
I think this bag would work best as a cross body type, especially since the D-rings for the strap are on back, it will lay nicely on the hip. I'll see if I have something for it!
Thanks girls!!

Hi everyone! It's been awhile! :smile1:
I think this is a duffle sac. It has a talon zipper, the buckle is different than other bags I've seen, and it looks like a piece of berkley suede was used on the creed pocket. (The rest of the bag is smooth leather.) I used the eyeshadow trick to make it readable and it reads fine. The serial number is: 331-3705. The dimensions are: 9'' x 13'' x 9'', 15.5'' at the top.
Any idea on the year or timeframe for this one?
TIA :smile1:
I think this got buried so *bump*

Ok, those I'll accept since I've seen a few of them on recent styles. So "Hyacinth's Half-Arsed Rule #2" should probably be "Coach never marked their name or logo on any Trigger-type or Dogleash strap clips".

Notice I specified "STRAP clips" because there is one oddball early Valet keychain style 7364 with two dogleash clips and at least one has a Coach logo.
I guess they figured they had to put the logo somewhere!

I've never seen it before, but would a fakes maker actually create new charms of mostly vintage bags? :shrugs:
Hmm. I'm not comfortable with it. I don't think it was made by Coach.

The enameling on the handbags looks concave where it would probably be smooth and even with the edges. The charms are handbags from (seemingly) too wide a timespan of when the bags were made. (Usually the charms are bags from the same era.) Coach's handbag charms with which I'm familiar have "stitching" or some other pave/detailing on the handles. The logos on the backs of some of the charms look odd although I believe the lozenge is authentic.

Hello ladies!

Could you please let me know if this Ashley is authentic before I sell it?
I got it about 2 yrs ago from a coworker, and she has many designer purses, I didn't doubt then, but as I said I want to sell it to buy a new one ;), and of course I have to be sure.

If you need more pictures let me know. TIA!
