Hello, can you please authenticate this bag?
Item: Coach City

The seller says it's a vintage 1980s bag and doesn't have the style serial number because it wasn't assigned yet. Is this true?
According to this source (http://vintagecoachbags.com/index.php/authenticity-guide/), the format xxx-xxxx ended in late 1970s. 1980s format was xxxx-xxx.

First of all, that "guide" posted ages ago by vintagecoachbags.com is completely, totally WRONG about coach codes and production dates. It was wrong and off by as much as 10 years when it was first posted and it's never been corrected. It should really be deleted, it's completely useless. Please delete it from your system.

ACCURATE dates are posted here at tPF in the six Salearea Guides, the link is right in the index list for this thread. The first 13 posts are background and any links in those first 13 posts are out of date and probably don't work, but the 2 Guides on serial numbers and on Coach creeds have correct information, as do the other 4 Guides. They were posted at Ebay in 2012 IIRC and updated and corrected in 2018.

STYLE numbers have been assigned to Coaches at least since the late 1960s, they just weren't included in the serial number until 1994. Coach mini-catalogs from as early as 1976 show the style numbers. SERIAL numbers that didn't contain any production codes and were just random strings of numbers have been used since around 1980 and up to 1994, give or take a year or two. There's no such thing as a "style serial number" - serial numbers after 1994 INCLUDE the style number, serial numbers from before 1994 didn't.

The bag you're asking about has a serial number so I'm not sure what the seller is referring to. Did you get the link to that vintagecoachbags "guide" from her? I really hope she's not using it or recommending it, she should know better. The bag IS vintage and was made between 1988 and 1990 although a few bags with that number format were also made in 1992 and 1993 so that's also a possible date of manufacture.

That guide you're referring to says "the format xxx-xxxx ended in late 1970s. 1980s format was xxxx-xxx." WRONG. The 3+4 number format STARTED right around 1980, consisted of seven and in rare cases, eight numbers, and was Coach's first use of a SERIAL number. It's almost impossible to know the exact year Coach started using serial numbers or as they called them back then, Registration Numbers.

The 4+3 all-number serials were introduced in 1990 and starting in 1994 production codes that included the official STYLE number replaced the old random-number serials with date and plant codes followed by the official style number. Those production codes included both numbers and letters.

If you're reading or hearing anything different than what I just posted, you're getting very bad information. Please read the Salearea Guides.

The seller didn't link me the guide. I just wanted clarification as to why the serial number was different from the other City bags I've seen and if it was fake or real. I usually see the style number (9790) on the creed but this one was different. Thank you for linking me Salearea guides!

Item: Coach 11419 Bleecker Dark Green Leather
Listing number: 303997448339
Seller and site where listed: luxuryforme, ebay
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303997448339

Comments: I won this Bottle Green Large Bleecker Flap Bag 11419 for $47 (retail $448) on ebay. I'm almost sure that it is genuine because I think it would be very difficult to mimic all of the details on this bag, like the Tattersall lining; but I would greatly appreciate receiving your expert opinion before I pay for the bag. Thank you!

Dearest Authenticators, could you please have a look at this bag on Ebay? I thought it was a Large Legacy Zip 9966, but the creed says otherwise. If it isn't authentic, I will report. Thank you so very much!

LOL! The title describes it as "9996," the bag is copying 9966 and the creed says 9791. (Plus, without even considering all those other problems, the K3H prefix is a giveaway.

Fakeroo!

Hello. This bag was purchased locally years ago, so no links. It measures approximately 9.5”x10”x3.5”. Would like to know if it’s a real Willis. Thanks!
