It's genuine. And while it's possible that Bonnie Cashin may have designed the original version (the Saddle Pouch Large goes back to at least 1976, and Cashin left in 1974), this particular one was made after Cashin had cut ties with Coach. It's a safe bet that any bag with a serial number was not made while Cashin was designing for them. I'd guess this particular bag was probably made some time around the early 1980s but it's hard to pin down anything made before 1994.

I believe I read in a guide (the one you linked) about the dates Bonnie Cashin designed for Coach. I know sellers just add her name willy nilly. Now that you've dated it back to the 80s, I'm picturing myself wearing with it really big hair. I sometimes miss big hair.

Thanks very much for the information. I am very enamored of this style at the moment. Although, I also super love an old NYC swagger (I think) that you guys authenticated for me. The leather is so thick and awesome. The bag has lots of flaws (spots I couldn't get out) but its now a deep rich tan, and I'm putting it into rotation. I just love it. It would also go with big hair, maybe some purple eye shadow and jeans with perfectly placed holes.

Big Hair - and BIG SHOULDER PADS! Can't forget that Joan Collins/Dynasty look! Or something a bit more casual to go with the jeans like a denim jacket with sequins and rhinestones to give you that C&W Star look. And of course, with BIG SHOULDER PADS. Can't have Big Hair without Big Shoulder Pads!

This makes me want to find my 80s pictures. I know I had a jacket with shoulder pads that I loved loved loved. I also now want to listen to some Duran Duran.

To stay on topic, here is another maybe 80s bag (if it's real). It looks just like the tan maybe Swagger I have.

This thread is amazing. Thank you to those who authenticate these bags. I've always loved vintage Coach and I'm always looking and sometimes buying. I'm very new to this site. I joined awhile ago but haven't quite got a handle on posting. I have a few bags in my collection that I would like to post here but can't seem to do so without using a website link. Is there a way to do that? I apologize if this isn't the place for this question. I've been on this site for ages today (what a rabbit hole I've stumbled into!) but I still haven't figured out how to post from my photo
library. Thank you!

Or you could salute the exact opposite of of those style trends and have a Robert Palmer flashback (not sure if we can link to YouTube videos, but here goes)

The Swagger seems ok, I just wish they'd have shown the other end of the zipper in their photos.
