I have been informed by someone whose opinion I respect very much that a bag I've had posted for sometime on PM and Merc is not real. I keep looking at it like a crazy person and it must be something that I am just uneducated about.

It's a first time purchase for me in this style and I should have had it check here first before listing it. Anyway here it is, if any of you can tell me what it is that I overlooked I'd really appreciate it.

You really need to verify your items BEFORE posting them for sale and BEFORE accusing a seller of sending a fake when the item is genuine.

This bag is definitely fake and one of the ones you posted on the Hall of Shame (and in fact stated today, "Whether we agree on their authenticity or not, the bags would be a huge disappointment to anyone that frequents these forums") is authentic!

Hello all,
I just received the 2 bag lot I bought from shopgoodwill. I was planning to keep just one and sell this one. It looks and feels legit to me but after reading some posts about shopgoodwill, I thought I better ask the experts. Thanks in advance.

Happy Saturday to you all :) This mini belt bag is a recent local store find in Palm Beach and I’d love to have it looked at. The size is 5x6” (approx) and it’s stamped F4G-9826. Name of color if you have it would also be much appreciated. TY

It looks fine.

Whoever warned you it was fake is correct. There are several problems with it. That's a highly faked style and should always be authenticated before buying or selling. It requires a comprehensive photo library to spot the mistakes by comparing them to a genuine example but they're definitely there.

Anyone who depends on their own observations, especially in vintage Coach bags, without having a photo library of both genuine and fake examples probably has a closet or store loaded with fakes. The same warning holds for anyone who depends on 99 percent of the "authenticity guides" on the internet.
Well I promise I don't have a "load of them" as I've shown most of them to y'all here first..Thanks for all the guidance btw. I do have a bit of a shopping/auction problem during these days of Covid. I save the pics and do the research, but this one I took a chance on because it is such a cute bag and I have a problem. This is the first "quality" fake I've come across in a coach. Its surprisingly well made and the leather is very nice.
I'll admit that I take chances on some bags that may not have good enough pics to tell for sure if they are authentic when they are a low cost contemporary brand. If the leather is good I can use it to practice on and my artists friends like bags like coaches, fossils, and lucky brand to customize.
I'm just really glad I didn't sell it and mess up my reputation or possibly get kicked off.
Reselling online is my only option for having an income of my own and I do not want to blow that.

look I'm not here to argue, or get virtually yelled at. I made a mistake on the bag I posted and Its been removed. People make mistakes and when I do I admit it, fix it and move on. I dont feel though that you can determine if those bags I sent back were authentic based on those photos...either way the bags were crap, crap quality and unusable.
The one I posted that was fake...so far I've only been told of one detail on it that shows it's fake. I have never heard about the underscore having a consistent size. If there is anything about it that screams fake I would like to know what they are so I don't make the same mistake again.
It was posted on both sites for several weeks and viewed by many knowledgeable coach enthusiasts and today was the first time it was pointed out to me.
I'm here to learn, not to argue or clash with anyone.
I want to know more about the styles that were heavily faked too if possible, but honestly I'm not that invested in the brand to deal with any drama over it.
Due to health issues and limited space, I'm selling off all of my contemporary brands for wholesale over the next month anyway and saving my efforts for the really special ones.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but merely commenting on what you've posted.

You say that you "dont feel though that you can determine if those bags I sent back were authentic based on those photos."

I completely disagree. These are the photos you posted and based on these photos, authenticity CAN be confirmed if one knows what to look for.

Presumably, you came to TPF because you wanted to learn about bags but for some reason, you aren't open to the lessons that we are trying to teach.

Different styles of bags, different years of manufacture, different countries where bags were made, etc. can vary in details even from the same style that was made in the same year in a different factory.

The bag you keep insisting is fake was made in Turkey and the bag and creed are absolutely correct for that style, year and that plant.

You say that the counterfeit bag was posted on both Mercari and Poshmark for "several weeks and viewed by many knowledgeable coach enthusiasts and today was the first time it was pointed out to me."

Actually, today isn't the first time it was posted (though it appears you may have chosen to overlook the post) because the Poshmark listing was posted last MOnday on the Coach Hall of Shame!

The fact that it was viewed by knowledgeable Coach enthusiasts doesn't mean that either they recognized it as fake nor does it mean it wasn't reported.

In fact, the problem I have with both Mercari and Poshmark is that neither site responds to and acts on reports when those fakes (or fraudulent listings) are reported. Other sites like ebay and Bonanza are considerably safer because they DO remove listings of fakes.

Here's a comparison of your creed (from fake 1994 M plant bag) compared to an authentic 1994 M plant bag. (The style number is different and they were made in different months.

It's more than just the underscore! The creed text is wrong as is the serial number/font. (Note that text, font, underscore, etc. that might be wrong in a particular bag can be correct for another bag.) You have to know what is correct for style, year and factory.
Screen Shot 2020-11-07 at 6.41.00 PM.png

Again, I'm not trying to argue but saying that an item can't be authenticated from pictures shown is wrong and that other Coach fans may not know what makes it right or wrong either.

I'm done here!

I was going to post this anyway but I see BeenBurned beat me to it. There's a LOT more wrong with that serial number AND creed than just an underscore. Take a LONG look.

There's also another serious problem that we usually don't mention in posts, but that's to keep unscrupulous sellers from leaving that damning detail out of their listing photos. We're NOT here to explain how counterfeiters can take better pictures and avoid showing those red flags in their fakes, so you'll just have to accept that we know what we're talking about.

Here's ANOTHER creed and serial number combo from EXACTLY the same month, year, plant, and even the style number from the same style, a City Bag. Its details match the one BeenBurned posted but don't match yours, and if yours was genuine the details of both WOULD match if all the codes in the serial numbers were exactly the same including the fonts and spacing. It's hard to read because it's dark but except for the month code "K" it's exacly the same as the other 9790 one that BeenBurned posted. And if you think the only difference is the underscore, then you didn't even look at the creed stamp.

GENUINE K4M- serial and creed from October 1994, "M" plant

Can you please tell me if this cosmetic bag I got at thrift store is authentic? It does not have any Coach stamp on the exterior. Thank you for your time!

Found this at Goodwill. The zipper gives me pause as it's janky and doesn't zip smoothly. Maybe it's just old. Also is that D2S? The s looks weird.

If the number is correct, all I can find online is "brown Coach purse." I found a black and red one listed as "vintage Hampton." TIA
