Hello everyone! I just purchased this Coach bag on impulse after a very loooong period of not buying any new bags and a hard day at work haha. I was hoping someone might be able to help me authenticate it? Even though I already purchased it, it would really give me peace of mind as I know very little about this style of bag and everything that I've searched seems to indicate it should have a 1970's format creed, which it does not. Thank you in advance!

Item: Coach 9790 (City Bag)
Listing number: m10061823118 (on Mercari)
Seller: Txjunkingmama
Link: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m10061823118/?url_scheme=item/openDetail&id=m10061823118
Comments: Not sure if the creed is correct for this style of bag because it seems like this bag was produced in the 70's and if so the creed doesn't seem to have the right format. Also, some of the words - "glove-tanned" and "variations" - are hyphenated because there wasn't enough room to include them on the same line of the creed. Is that normal? [Including a photo of the creed below since the one in the listing is upside down!)

Hi can you please authenticate this bag? I bought it at a thrift store and it has been dyed brown. It was originally tan. It is about 9.5' x 9' thank you

Can someone authenticate this? I'm trying to see if I've got ahold of a shady seller on ebay because I bought a wallet that's kate soade and they shut down the thread so my only hope now is to see if the other items they have sold are authentic....

I don't know where you're finding your Coach information, but I strongly recommend that you find another source for it especially for dates and details.

Why does it seem like it was produced in the 1970s? The style wasn't even introduced until 1987. And creed formats are determined by when that particular bag was actually MADE, not by when the original version was designed or released. Creed formats have changed regularly over the years. And formats and spacing sometimes changed for individual plants in different months and sometimes even different years.

Every plant's creed and serial number history is different, and creeds and numbers can ONLY be compared between two items made in the same plant, year and sometimes even the same month, and usually with the same style number. There's an accurate history of Coach creeds and serial numbers in the Salearea Coach Guides posted here at tPF. Any other so-called guide is probably full of mistakes and outdated information. Coach changes details constantly and most guide writers never bother to keep up even if their guides were actually more or less accurate when written. Read this entire thread for more information:

The creed fonts, formatting, spacing, hyphens and all other details are exactly what they should be for a genuine City Bag made in late 1997 at Coach's "I' (the letter, not the number) plant in Turkey. There's nothing wrong with it.

This is Coach's 1989 catalog page:

This is a curious one. I'm curious about others' opinions on the bag!

Comments: I've never seen this type of creed on a fabric bag. Although the creed stamping, stitching and lining seem okay, the prefix has too many characters and is scrambled on top of that! (And a scrambled creed on an item made AFTER a legit creed seems odd.)

And this is a comparison of Yonderbound's bag, supposedly style 8888 vs. Coach stock image for style 757:

Thanks so much for sharing the guide. This is really helpful and I'll be sure to refer to that rather than others for future shopping!

Here's another weird one from the same seller.

This is supposedly a limited edition in which the number if left blank. Has anyone ever seen that?
