Hi, I’d like to get this authenticated:

Item: Willis in Mahogany
Listing number:
Seller and site where listed: purplehorse_1 on poshmark

Comments: Extra photo of the creed View attachment 4890770

Thank you for your help!

Sorry, it's fake. I hope you didn't buy it. The serial number prefix is known to always be fake when it's with a creed that says the bag was made in the US.

There are also problems with construction details AND other stamping details of the creed and serial number.

Do you mean that you're trying to find the Guide? If so, you might not find it. The copy she has posted on her site has non-functioning links, or my browser is too out of date to open them. The photos I have were saved from a functioning copy of her Guide years ago.
Hi there again so I just wanted to find out for sure if this vintage suspender strap bag is genuine based on the previous messages Thank you

Hello dear authenticators,

I was wondering if this red station bag was authentic. The creed is in the front inside flap, is that normal?

Seller: shopalexis69x

It's fine. Very early versions of the Station Bag when they were called the Shoulder Pouch Large and still had the Made In New York City creeds had them stamped in the same place, maybe the very early ones didn't have an inside pocket. Once in a while we'll see it happen in slightly newer versions too.

Very interesting! I'm always amazed at all the information yall know. Thanks :)

I'm not sure if we've come to a conclusion on that.

Please understand something. Some bags, especially very old ones with no PERMANENT Coach stamps or details, simply can't always be solidly authenticated because we have nothing we can depend on when (and IF) we can compare it with a known genuine version. There are no official photos or records, just a few scattered photos on sites like this, and even then there's always the question of Provenance, which is a critical detail in any kind of antiques market.

Any manufacturer COULD ( and some did and still do) copy the details of any other company's bag (or dress or shoes or anything else) legally as long as they didn't use another company's name. There's no trademark protection on styles except in very rare cases and maybe even then only if the company name is something like Louis Vuitton or Hermes.

The bag you asked about only has a removable metal tag which by the looks of the holes in the leather has been removed and reattached more than once. That doesn't surprise me, it's a white bag and to look the way it does it probably would have to have been cleaned more than once. (I've also noticed that some white leathers tend to yellow a bit over the years but I'm not sure if that was a Coach problem.) I've noticed that there seems to be a difference in the strap ends and shape of the leather pieces there compared to the other white bag in the comparison photos but I didn't really look that closely since I'm not anything even close to an expert in pre-creed bags and usually don't get involved. For me the strap ends could be a problem although I'm more confident that the metal tag is genuine, but that's not a permanent unchageable part of the bag.

So my opinion would have to be that it's Questionable, but more likely to be genuine than not.

That's the best I can do, sorry. Maybe the others have come to different conclusions. Or it's possible that "Questionable, but ... " (fill in the blank) is the best we can do right now.
