Hi authenticators! I am coming here after I made this purchase. There are photos in the listing, plus I am including my own photos of the bag and the strap. It has edgecoating on it. Please let me know if this is authentic. I am wondering if City bags had edgecoating on the strap, or if this was added afterwards. While there were no specific photos in the listing of the strap, if you look REALLY close you can see it. Should it have been disclosed by the seller in the written description? The seller has 100% positive feedback and it looks like she is pretty knowledgeable about vintage Coach. But I would appreciate your expertise.

I saw your post at the Vintage Board. That edgecoating was NOT done by Coach. It really SLOPPY and vintage bags didn't have edgecoating, while it's usually black on newer styles.

I'm not seeing a photo of the creed. Was it authenticated before you bought it? There are no creed pics in the listing either.

Even if a bag was authenticated before you bought it, if it has that kind of questionable detail when you get it, it's a good idea especially if the seller doesn't have a strong satisfaction record to have it authenticated again.

That seller's name sounds familiar.I need to do some searching.

EDITED TO ADD - she was discussed for a while starting here for using photos that weren't her own:

CORRECTION - ignore my earlier comment, I'm trying to do 2 things at once again and that never works out well - It's from late 2003 and I would have figured that the plants were using black edgecoat, but the bag itself is genuine.

(Sigh) It's hard to have to think of some early China bags as "vintage". I don't know if any Coach plant in China in late 2000 would have used color-matched edgecoating. That's really more of a question for someone who frequents both the Rehab and the Vintage Coach threads. All I can say is the bag is genuine but I have no idea when the edgecoating was done.
This bag would have been from 1993, though am I correct...? I think I will have to tell the seller that I am super-disappointed in the strap, but I don't think there's much I can do at this point, is there. There is no way that I would ever sell it to someone without disclosing the strap condition, but I guess we're not all made the same, are we.

No, it's actually from 2003 so it's not vintage.

The seller describes it as "very good vintage condition" but apparently JEAN620 has a different definition of "very good" than the rest of us.

Well, I think I have a resolution to this unfortunate (but important!) lesson I have learned today. I messaged the seller with photos of the strap and she told me I can return it. She said she will pay shipping costs. So off it goes! And again, a few very important lessons have been learned here. Thank you so much!

I'm glad this was resolved to your satisfaction.

Just want to comment that 620jean does have a history (in addition to using pictures that weren't hers).

When I purchased the bag, I did a search on the Authenticate forum and nothing came up for me (it's possible I didn't do it quite right) but it NEVER OCCURRED TO ME TO LOOK AT THE HALL OF SHAME PAGE!!! GAH! See? Another lesson!!!!

Re 620jean: As I commented, the seller does have a history; it's not a long history but a "history," nonetheless.

In the HOS post above, the fake bag was wannabe-Court bag. This picture is from that listing and from my post made in April, 2020. (I added the arrow just now to show my issue with the seller.)

From Apr 15, 2020
620jean fake coach K4M-9870 front.jpg

And this is a current LOT listing in which she includes the previously removed fake. Notice the same bend in the flap of the fake bag.

And if there's any doubt that the seller didn't try to sneak the fake into the lot, these are the two pictures.
