Hello Authenticators,

I'm requesting your help with another bag I have in my collection. I believe it's an early 90's Waverly?

It is about 8" tall and 12" across the top - strap drop about 5"? She's a tiny little thing.

Thanks as always for your help.

Genuine, but it's not a Waverly, it's too early and the straps are too long. Give me a few minutes to ID it, unless someone beats me to it. It was made in the late 1980s. I'll add the name here when I find it.

eta - sorry, I didn't notice the straps were unbuckled and stretched out. Then it probably IS a Waverly, with one of those oddball serial numbers, a few 3+4 format numbers were still apparently being used as recently as late 1992 or early 1993. Interesting. It might be one of the early ones, maybe early 1993.

And what color is it under normal lighting? The creed photo makes it look like it might be Navy but the color in the other photos is a much lighter blue.

Thank you! Appreciate it - especially since it sounds like a bit of an oddball. :)

It's Navy. I think the sun and the lighting in my kitchen made it look quite washed out. I had to zoom to get a clear view of the numbers - but it looks more like this with the sun not beating down on it. It still looks slightly washed out compared to the stand up picture of the bag which is closer to the true color.

ETA: I'm not sure it's a Waverly. I don't think Waverlies (sp?) have the seams on the sides of the front. (@Hyacinth - Is it 4157?)

You have the straps buckled incorrectly. They don't buckle from front to back; they buckle from side to side like this:

Thank you!

1- genuine, late 1980s
2- genuine, also late 1980s
3- not a recommended seller, they've been discussed dozens of times here at tPF and even if their listing is genuine I won't authenticate it, because I wouldn't want to give them any kind of OK under ANY circumstances. If the Toolhaus.org site was still working you could see years of neutral and Negatives from that seller's Ebay record, not just about fakes but also a lot of problems with items that were "significantly not as described".

There are 14 pages of posts here where they're mentioned:

The 4157 Soho Buckle Bag didn't come out until 1996 so the creed and serial formats would be wrong. The front and back seams on the Waverly line up with the outside edges of the straps and buckles.

It's amazing how much difference a change in lighting can make in photos. That's why I try to never get involved in questions about color identification, there are just too many things that affect how colors look to a camera or on a screen. That happens a lot with blues. And I've gotten fooled so many times when I think a bag in a listing is purple when it's actually brown or mahogany.

It's so true. Between the way pictures render on different devices and the nature of digital photography it's so hard to capture color clearly unless you've got a light box or studio set up.

Thank you both for all of your help!
