IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

And here's another
Item: Willis 9927
Where purchased: Goodwill auction, with the bag posted above
Comments: This one also came with authenticity certificate from Entrupy. Also, although I know the hangtag is not the primary indication of authenticity, it looks super wonky. And someone did something really weird to the strap. Of course, no pictures of these things on the auction. And it came with this little thing (last pic) inside. What is it?
As always, I very much appreciate y'alls expertise!

Item: Vintage COACH envelope clasp shoulder bag (Gramercy 7000, 1998, $50)
Seller and site where listed: baileylove1997; Poshmark
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-COACH-envelope-clasp-shoulder-bag-5e778c8fffc2d40dbaf6a881

Comments: I made an offer and got this bag for $50 and I think that it is a genuine Gramercy Clutch from 1998 but I am not familiar with any Gramercy bag that has style number 7000.

It is similar to this Wheat Gramercy Clutch 7007 on Etsy:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/577618...f=sr_gallery-1-1&organic_search_click=1&cns=1

Pictures of the creed are below and there are more pics of the bag on the listing. Please give an opinion about authenticity and any information you may have about style number 7000, thank you!

It's authentic. I don't have the style number 7000 in my files. There are a few differences between your bag and 7007, for example, the way the strap attaches, the flat bottom with feet, and the leather pocket with the creed on it. I think yours was an early version; a version I think it superior.

Fantastic news, thank you!
I think I'm just getting more cranky and irritable as a result of 7 weeks of quarantining and as a result, I also have more time to look at and comment on sellers' other listings, especially when such sellers are "Posh Ambassadors and Top-Rated Sellers."

As a posh ambassador, baileylove1997 aka Caroline's Closet on Poshmark has a perceived reputation as an honest seller however she has sold fakes too.

Poshmark really needs to vet their "ambassadors."

Rant over.

Wow, I lucked out! I checked her other coach items and there was only one MFF Coach bag in her store but it looked okay to me. I didn't check past sales or I might have been scared away. Thanks!

Hello all! I am seeking assistance with this bag. Thank you in advance!

Item: Ridgefield #9812
Where purchased or how obtained: Goodwill auction.
Comments:It came with authenticity certificate from Entrupy, with which I am not familiar. So in wanted to be sure.

And here's another

First of all, IGNORE any Entrupy "authenticity certificates", they have constantly mis-identified fake "Coaches" as authentic and vice versa. The computer-based authentication methods they advertise and boast about so much are completely invalid for classic and vintage Coaches, and they don't even bother to find and use VALID means of authenticating, such as serial numbers. Some of the mistakes they've made are incomprehensible. And they've made serious mistakes with most other brands too.

As for the bags:
The black style 9812 is a gnuine Ridgefield Flap made in 2000.

I THINK the tan Willis 9927 may be OK but we really need to see a better photo of the creed and serial number, the first few digits aren't readable. Please try to take a clearer picture and one that will hopefully post right-side up The first 3 digits look like H8L- but that combination isn't in my files. We need to know what that third digit is. Other than not being able to read the entire number, there don't seem to be any other problems.

Hangtags are never used for authentication, they've often been lost or replaced. The wrist strap is from some kind of wristlet and doesn't belong to that bag at all.

In the future, if you still have a record of the Goodwill sale and a copy of the Entrupy certificates, please post them. When you say a Goodwill auction, you mean an online auction? There still should be a record of the listings.

Good to know that Entrupy is not reliable. I had tried to find some info about them and failed to find much. Thank you so much for clarifying that. I will certainly be more cautious about their claims in the future.
Sorry about the pictures. Here's another one of the creed on the Willis right side up and enlarged. It does appear to read H8L...
I was surprised to see that wrist strap when I opened the bag. I don't know why it was in there, maybe something from the original owner I guess.

The Willis is fake and Entrupy f-ed up again.

ETA: Is there a link to the Goodwill listing? Did the listing show the entrupy certificate? Please post a link if there's one. I've been saving records of their mistakes.

Thanks for the photo, but it verifies what I was concerned about. The H8L- serial prefix is always fake. Not only is the font used for the number incorrect (the L should be slightly larger than the other digits), but the L plant code was never used for any bags made in the US after the first 2 months of 1997. Every H8L- or H9L- serial prefix we've ever found has been in a fake bag. The strap is a mess too but I think a previous owner did that. You need to contact Goodwill and tell them the bag has been identified as counterfeit and you want a full refund including shipping charges. The strap modifications seriously decrease the value AND the wearability of the bag too.

ETA - Here's what a genuine L plant code from the USA plant looked like in 1996, note the larger "L" and the other differences

Oh, that makes me so mad! I looked up Entrupy and their claims to authenticity. I couldn't find a lot of 3rd party reviews on them though. I guess I really shouldn't have trusted them! Grrrr! While that is bad news, thank you for letting me know that it's not genuine.

I'll find the link. I got this one pretty recently, so the link should still be working. Yep, here it is. Dang it! I was excited about that Willis... https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/91013948

They didn't provide pics of the creeds on either bag; I was trusting Entrupy's claims of authenticity. I shouldn't have bid on it without pics of the creeds. Dumb. Well, now I know better. I think i might be able to get a refund since they claimed it was authentic when it's not... I hope so!

If you google "Entrupy mistakes," you'll find lots of posts here as well as this thread:

Just looking at the listing photos, I'm also seeing big problems with the padding, or lack of padding, on the leather tab above the turnlock or where the turnlock should be, they couldn't even be bothered to mention the missing part of the turnlock? The strap has really been butchered, if you tried to carry it in that configuration the buckle would be digging into your shoulder, because now it's permanently fastened so that the buckle is right at the top, where it rests on your shoulder.

PLEASE, have Coach online purchases authenticated here at tPF BEFORE BUYING. And when a Coach bag should have a creed and serial number, don't buy it if there aren't any photos of those details. Again, authenticate HERE before buying.

BTW, please note the pic I posted above of a genuine Coach with an "L" plant code

I did see the missing turnlock, but I have an extra I thought I could use. I didn't know about the padding though. I had usually gotten most of the bags I've purchased in the past at 2nd hand stores, although I've gotten a few online. With few exceptions I've always asked y'all first. I will ALWAYS ask here first!

I just realized too that I can see that weirdness on the strap in the pictures. For some reason it didn't register, maybe because I couldn't really see the strap as a whole. Well, I really messed up! I made several rookie mistakes on this purchase. Funny thing is I have only bought online styles of bags that I've owned before or that are easily recognizable as authentic, with this exception because of Entrupy certificate. Wow, I feel like a dummy. Sigh.

Thanks again, ladies! As always, I've learned something new. And as is often the case for me, unfortunately, I've learned the hard way!

I also buy from shopgoodwill.com. Even if a "certificate of authentication" is included, I will ask for clear, legible and complete photos of the entire Coach creed, especially if such are not included in the auction description. Recently, their customer service reps have begun replying that since the bags are "authenticated" there's no need to provide those photos. REALLY???
I have contacted them about a few bags which appeared to be fake/counterfeit, and after they've researched the bag's authenticity, the listing(s) has been cancelled and removed.
I have found some really desirable vintage Coach bags at their site, but absolutely---buyer BEWARE---at shopgoodwill.com!!
