Here is another one to authenticate. I bought it ages ago and have tried to repair as best as possible (something was glued to flap and front of bag). If authentic, do you know the approximate age? Thanks in advance!

Style: Flap Saddle Bag (please verify)
Measurements: 9.5 x 8 x 4

Can you actually read the serial number? Because I can't read the prefix at all. I can't tell if it was an all-number serial or if there are letters in the prefix and without being able to see it I can't even tell if it's genuine or not. I THINK it's ok and the formatting and spacing matches a few bags with all-number serials in my files from around 1989. Yours might be from the same time and plant as this bag from 1989, click on the thumbnail to open:

You can try lightly brushing a light color powder eyeshadow or highlighter over the serial number and then gently wiping off the excess, sometimes that will settle into the indentations and make a worn number easier to read. Even if you can verify that the first 3 digits are all numbers followed by a dash, that will be a big help.

And can you tell us if the strap is the same width for its entire length, or if it narrows down at the ends by the buckle holes? So far the closest I can come to it is a 9170 Classic Shoulder bag but that has a tapered strap in my catalog photos. Do the strap ends on yours taper down like the Mahogany 9170 in this catalog photo from 1989?

The number is 548-0930 and yes the strap does taper near the buckles holes.

One more from the thrift, if anyone can have a look at it, please. I took a gamble since it was so inexpensive, even though I know I shouldn't do that (yikes). I'm dubious because every example I've found online has the same serial number, and the creed wording differs on some that are supposedly from the same plant/month. If it is fake, I'll de-brandify it and use it as a cosmetic bag.
