Item: Equestrian Drawstring J7D-9804
Listing number: 67918527

Comments: Fake? I was comparing this bag to a couple pictures hyacinth posted in February, a 1997 preview catalogue picture and an authentic bag picture. In the catalogue picture the leather piece, attaching the buckle to the bag, seems to be pretty centered between the top of the bag and the top of the pocket. That piece on this bag is not centered (pic 4) not sure if that's just human error or the angle of photography?
The stitching on the underside of the strap is pretty messy (pic 5) and the strap seems to have a visible foam/filler piece between the outer layers of leather( 6&7) and more padding/filler that runs down the midline underside of the strap adding some roundness to it (pic 8). On the authentic pic that was posted, as far as I am able to tell, they have flat straps.
It also looked like in the catalogue that the tassels were sewn rotated at a 90 degrees to the flat side of the drawstring, whereas they look to be both sewn flat on the authentic bag pic and on this bag.
There were a couple creeds posted along with those pictures, and even though I really wanted to try figure this one out before posting to test myself, trying compare creeds and fonts lost me. I checked the Salearea guides just in case but didn't see J7D, only J6D and J8D.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

Good morning! Can you please authenticate the following for me? Thanks in advance for your time and expertise!
Item: bucket bag—unsure of name
Listing #: NA—Poshmark
Seller: t1ff3ny

Comments: can you also provide name of bag? Thx!!!

In case anyone is interested to know what happened after I contacted them - they had the bag authenticated by a company called Entrupy who says it's authentic. Here's the certificate they sent to me:View attachment 4440743 :annoyed:

I contacted the seller. Here's my message and their response. Not only did Entrupy deem it authentic, they got the serial number wrong on their paperwork (their certificate shows F7T-9860 but the bag is stamped F7T-9870).

Disgusting!

DO NOT TRUST ENTRUPY!

ETA: Feel free to forward this post to both Goodwill AND Entrupy.

Note that I also posted here:

I agree, and this isn't the first stupid and inexcusable mitake they've made! Any one who depends on Entrupy to authenticate ANY vintage Coach item is throwing away their money - that includes buyers AND sellers.
@whateve
All I can say is thank you to all of you authenticators for time and energy, both of which you all give a significant amount, so that I can enjoy my Coach purchased on the secondary market. I don’t think I would have made/enjoyed all of my purchases if I had not found this site several years ago. And thanks to all the members (especially the usual suspects) who put in the diligence and post what is required (and we all know taking pictures and posting is not always easy) for authentification. Thank you all around.

It's probably genuine but we really need to see a better photo of the creed stamp and serial number to be sure. It looks like a Nicholas Drawstring style 9946 from around 1994-95. The last part of the serial number is just barely visible in the seller's photo.

I'm curious to hear @houseof999 's feelings about this listing in which the seller is requesting $999!

The fact that it's Poshmark combined with the seller's story would make me hit the "back" button but it sounds like some others are buying her line.

I know the bag can't be authenticated (as genuine) but I'm curious whether anyone has seen it or heard a similar pitch.

Thanks so much for you time! I’ll contact the seller and ask if she can take a better photo.
