I'm curious to hear @houseof999 's feelings about this listing in which the seller is requesting $999!

The fact that it's Poshmark combined with the seller's story would make me hit the "back" button but it sounds like some others are buying her line.

I know the bag can't be authenticated (as genuine) but I'm curious whether anyone has seen it or heard a similar pitch.

I have seen this listing. There was another sample on PM as well. Similar story. I thought the asking price is ridiculous as it is a sample that never went into production. I have a dinky sample with same style number. The seller also claimed her friend got it from a sample sale in NY. I called Coach customer service about the style number and they have no clue how the sample items and handled and are unable to confirm it's a Coach. They have no clue how Coach has set up their system when it comes to sample prototypes. This seller is trying to bank on the rarity of the item as there is no other one like it currently available anywhere. Not saying that they only made one sample of this style but no one really knows. Coach has made a kiss lock satchel style with a limited production number of 5 meaning it has a style number and they are numbered. I believe one of our TPF member owns one of those kiss lock satchels. You can see it in the kiss lock club thread.

I don't think it's fake but as you said, it can't be proven authentic even if all the details are correct. It will be always be an assumption that it was made by coach. So my verdict on these bags are "possibly made by Coach". :D

I used to work in Quality Control and Quality Assurance Dept in the pharmaceutical companies. I can't stress enough about how important documentation is but when it comes to leather goods you can't expect bag manufacturers to dot their 'I's and cross their 'T's for paperwork. They are making bags and they can care less. I can only wish that they would make an actual legitimate creed patch for samples that clearly states "This is a sample prototype bag... etc." stating what season and what year that sample was created. I do believe they sew in a sample tag in sampel bags. However, almost everyone who buys the sample, tears off the sample tag and the documentation is lost unfortunately.

You're right, there's no way to prove authenticity. And then there's this in the description - "The stock pictures vary slightly from the original. The bag was unfortunately used before I got a hold of it (cry!). It’s in good, preowned condition with wear mainly to hardware, missing a keychain fob and/or was never there, etc.,"

So she bought it secondhand by someone who actually USED it, not just carried it on a runway in a fashion show? And seller says "FREE AUTHENTICATION"? Wonder which Basket Of Deplorables she found to authenticate something that can't be authenticated?
OH YEAH, I FORGOT...
"Poshmark offers free item authentication and free shipping (limited time*) on all items $500 or more.
How does Posh Authenticate work?
When you purchase a luxury item on Poshmark, it's shipped directly to Poshmark HQ for authentication. Our team of luxury experts carefully inspect the item's authenticity by checking logos, tags, materials, hardware, quality, and more. Once we've confirmed authenticity, we'll package it with care and ship it to you. If the item's authenticity cannot be verified, we will refund you immediately.

How do I know whether my luxury purchase is eligible?
All orders of $500 or more are eligible for Posh Authenticate. Shop with confidence knowing that your purchase will be 100% authentic, 100% of the time. "

The same fine "authenticators" that have repeatedly claimed that genuine Coaches were fake and fake Coaches were real. That's SOOOOOOOOOO reassuring!

I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

I'm of the opinion that calling Coach is fairly useless. In fact, I even question some of the archivist's knowledge after seeing a recent listing where Jed deemed a fake as genuine. (The seller did end the listing when informed that the bag is fake.) So for customer service to have anywhere near enough information about anomylies, limited editions and prototypes, that (IMO) is laughable!

Proof of authenticity aside, I have a hard time believing that any item purchased either at a "sample sale" or by an employee wouldn't come with a receipt or some type of documentation that shows that the item wasn't stolen!

And even more importantly, that Coach collected and remitted the sales tax required by New York State on the transaction! You don't want to mess with the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance. :graucho:

I have a bag that was made pre-production for a photo shoot. It doesn't have a 00000 style number. It actually has the wrong style number - a number for a bag that was in production at the time. I have documentation from the factory that makes me believe it really was produced by Coach for the photo shoot, but if I ever listed the bag, it would be reported as fake. There is no sample tag sewn into the bag. The details of my bag, other than the creed number, are correct in every way.

I recently got this red 9086 Small Shopper from Poshmark. I already have it in black (which I love!), but this new red one doesn't look right. The grommets are more silver-colored than brass, and the buckles have "solid brass" stamped underneath. Would love your opinion. Thanks!

It's fake. Please post a link to the listing.

You should know that Poshmark doesn't have a good track record of identifying fakes.
