May I also request authentication of this Coach messenger with black metal tag?
It measures 10” tall, 11” wide, and 4” deep, front to back.
The strap was made in 2 pieces of leather, and I include a picture of where the strap is joined in the middle.
If you know the name, age or style number, that would be wonderful!
Thank you again for your help and expertise!

Is there a slip pocket under the front flap, and a zipper on the inside pocket? If there is, and if the length and height measurements might actually be an inch less, 10x9x4, it would be a genuine Classic Shoulder Bag style 9170 and probably from the mid to late 1970s.

It helps to show all those construction details when asking about vintage bags.

Comments: The creed has many misspellings. This can't be an authentic Coach. Is this why PM is not recommended?
Where is a good online site for looking for authentic Coach for rehabbing?

Yep, it's a complete fake. And the sad and infuriating thing is that even if you report it and point out every single misspelled word AND the fact that the serial number is not only stamped seriously off-center BUT is also on the Daria48 Coach Fake Serial numbers list still posted at Ebay UK, Poshmark won't do a damned thing to remove it.

"0974-534 - has shown up on several counterfeit Willis Bags and fakes of other classic leather styles. Any creed stamp with this number is probably fake and needs to be looked at very closely by an expert on older Coaches"

To back up what we posted about earlier today - it doesn't look kinky until you actually READ the creed stamp.
"GLOVF tanned cowhide"
"SCAR "
"WBINKLES"
"FULL-CRAIN LEATHERS"
and of course, one of our all-time favorite red flags,
"MARXINGS"

ALWAYS READ THE CREED AS IF YOU WERE THE WORLD'S TOUGHEST GRADE-SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER. Only a small percentage of classic and vintage fakes have spelling mistakes, but when they're THIS obvious there's NO excuse for selling OR BUYING that bag!

Thank you so much, Hyacinth. I will be sure to include more photos next time. This bag does not have a slip pocket under the flap. Inside, there is a hanging slip pocket. (No zipper). I also note that the hanging pocket does not have piping around it. Instead, it is a single piece of leather, folded, with seams on the left and right. I just re-measured, and came up with 10x11x3.5.

I so respect your expertise. Thanks again.

Just curious, are the buckles stamped with anything? My pre-creed courier had solid brass stamped on the buckles and a lozenge cartouche stamp. An earlier bag of mine has the metal tag and nothing stamped on the buckles. I don't believe they are solid brass due to the weight. In my opinion, the metal tag pre-dates the lozenge imprint.

Styles changed over time. My pre-creed courier had that type of pocket. It's difficult to know if it is a precursor to the classic pouch or a different style. I believe it was made in the early to mid 70s, not late 70s.

This is NOT an authentication.

I was only able to find one example of a bag with the 9075 as the style number. (Other listed as 9075 were actually 9076.)

And the only other 9075 was made 3 months after the bag in question and had a creed with different text and not showing as being limited edition.

I'm not sure whether this information will be helpful to @whateve and @Hyacinth or not.

Thank you, Whateve. These buckles are not imprinted "solid brass". I have a pre-creed courier with the leather-imprint cartouche, and those buckles are also not imprinted as solid brass. However, on both bags, the brass buckles look and feel like solid brass to me.

I really appreciate your thinking about the style of the pocket; I'd love to see a picture.

This bag is a different shape from the wedge shape of classic pouch 9170. Instead, it's very rectangular. I have wondered if this might have been a prototype? Lillian Cahn? Little NY workshop called "Coach"?

Thank you so much for your thoughts.

There was a bag closer to the size and shape of your bag, called an organizer pouch, but it had lots of open pockets. Yours could be a precursor to it, before they decided to add all the pockets.

Thanks for the additional details.

I still think it's genuine but I'd like WHATEVE to have a look at the news pics and the ones in the original post:
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads...ost-for-format.889527/page-2278#post-32866142
It may not be a Classic Pouch unless it's a version older than what's described in my 1981 catalog and Coach changed a few details along the way. Whateve is much better at true vintage styles than I am and maybe she's seen those pocket details before.

ETA - looks like she's already on the case. Never mind! (in my best Emily Littella voice)

So interesting, and thank you! The shape and dimensions of the 9645 looks right!

May I ask, what is the year of the catalogue in your photo? And, by chance do you know what types of pockets, et al, are part of the 9645?

Appreciation for all of you, in advance. Seriously. J
