I have this messenger bag/briefcase (not sure exactly what to call it) it was in horrible shape and thrown away in the trash at the goodwill salvage yard. I would like to know more about it as information is hard to find.
Year of bag, style/name of bag

Item name: briefcase/messenger bag

Thank you so much! View attachment 3841523View attachment 3841532 View attachment 3841521
Wow, you hit the motherlode! You haven't given measurements but it looks like a carrier bag made in the late 70s or 80s.

It doesn't even look bad! If this is a picture of after your rehab, do you have a before pic?

... well I spent some time on it and picked up some hints on rehab and brought it back to life! I wish I did have photos before didn’t even think of that I was showing it off to my family members who scoffed st me for digging it out of the trash! It’s a lovely bag and the leather is so thick and smooth and easy to work with! It still has some issues on the corners but I love this bag!!

I have not seen this style, which doesn’t mean much. Looks like the edging seam is smack in the front. That seems odd to me.

I think someone asked about the same style about a year ago. It's a genuine Carry-All Clutch 4832 from around 1991.

ETA - In fact, YOU were the poster who asked about it. And while the original listing photo is gone, the photo in my answer isn't. If you keep any photo files, you may want to save a copy.

FAKE. The serial number 0974-534 is ALWAYS fake and is on the Daria48 Fake Coach Serial Numbers List posted at Ebay. A Google search should have brought up a link to that list if you had searched.

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Fake-Coach-Serial-Numbers-NT-4903-and-more-/10000000002744619/g.html
and scroll about halfway down
"0974-534 - has shown up on several counterfeit Willis Bags and fakes of other classic leather styles. Any creed stamp with this number is probably fake and needs to be looked at very closely by an expert on older Coaches"

The shape of the bag itself is also slighty "off", there's no visible padding under the leather piece above the turnlock, the strap was NOT made by Coach, and there are HUGE gaps between some words in the creed statement, along with two spelling mistakes, look at "Crain" and "marXings".

Comments: This bag looks fake to me, but I want to make sure before I report it. Thank you!

It's fake. A lot of the patches are wrong including C pattern ones with Cs that are the wrong size or shape. The trim should be a light to medium brown, and the overall stitching is really bad. AND the hardware on that style should ALWAYS be brass, never silver.
