Authentic.
Thank you! The China and 2001 confused me. Do you know when Coach started manufacturing in China? I'm new to all this and just learning. For some reason I thought it was later. Did they gradually phase out the US and other countries' manufacturing as they ramped up production in China? Is there a post I can go to or article to read on manufacturing dates, places, and history. Thank you!

There are no articles other than the posts that members of this forum and a few others have scattered across the internet. Coach usually doesn't publish any kind of corporate information or history. The information we've gathered is based on more than 10 years of tracking and analyzing serial numbers and information in photos and catalogs and is probably the most accurate information you'll find anywhere INCLUDING Coach - who at various times have told phone callers that Coach DID make purses in Korea but never made any items in Thailand, BOTH of which are completely and utterly wrong.

But to answer your question - the earliest business bags and travel items such as briefcases and combination leather and fabric travel bags to have been made in China go back to 1996 or possibly very late 1995 although some fake handbags have also appeared with similar dates. However the earliest verified genuine China-made womens' handbags weren't made until around 1999, according to all the thousands of creeds we've looked at over the years. ALL the original Signature C fabric bags were made in China, never in the US, starting in 2000. And again, there are a ton of fakes that used bogus plant and date codes from that time period so they all need to be carefully authenticated. DON'T try to do that yourself.

"Did they gradually phase out the US and other countries' manufacturing as they ramped up production in China?"
Yes.

All purses or handbags with China in the creed and any date earlier than 1999 should be considered as probably fake and ALWAYS verified in this thread before buying, selling or bidding OR reporting.

I hope that answers your question.

And if anyone has any updates or corrections to this information, please post here and Reply to this post. Thanks!

Yes, perfect! It absolutely does. Thank you for the information. I'm astounded by how much research y'all have done on this. It's fascinating to me.

Would this bag be authentic? I'm avoiding that station 85 one.

First one is authentic but not rare and not vintage (as described by aoihana00.)

Second is authentic but not a Willis. It's a station bag, style 5130.
(Seller cgwinn57 has listed fakes several times since 2015.) This is one post regarding a fake she'd listed:

F685B263-B422-47CF-AA5B-36ADB948701D.jpeg Now that I have had a chance to really look over the bags I have a question. everything seems right to me but the way they stitched two of the zipper edges at the top corners, pins down the top of the bag a bit. Could it be coach just let it go or is it not authentic after all? I know you don’t like doing these bags but I would like someone else’s opinion. And I New they didn’t show what was required on eBay but I took a chance. It is only letting me load 1 pic. I will add more in a sec.
