Hi!
Looking for some help. Dear husband surprised me today with this 1941 whiplash saddle #38219. First, I never knew this bag was available in this color (1941 red). However, I know there are department store exclusives that Coach US never gets. Specifically, I have the same bag in black, a color never available directly through Coach US.
After closer inspection, a few things popped out at me. Specifically:
Hardware is a matte black, not the shiny gunmetal that my other bags of this style have.
More so though, was the inside patch. Ironically, I am carrying my white bag of this exact same style which I purchased directly through Coach. I immediately compared the two patches. The patch on the red one is different. It is much larger in the red bag and has additional verbage, such as the very last line that talks about it being at the registration number. In addition, the patch inside the red bag shows a picture of a saddle bag which appears to be the anniversary style saddle bag, not this particular bag. My white bag of the same style does not have the picture of the saddle bag and it. It's just verbage.
I also include a photo of the tag that is sewn into the inside zip pocket.
I hope the info I'm providing is sufficient. The quality is the same as my other bags in this line. My husband rarely surprises me with gifts so I didn't want to seem disappointed or ask a lot of questions. However, if more details are needed, let me know. THANK YOU!

I think your bag is authentic.

I responded to in the link below where the poster was concerned with some of the differences between her bags of the same/similar styles.

Since there are a few small scratches and the tag isn't still attached to the bag, there's a change it's been used at least once. But it's a genuine Basic Bag #9455 probably made between the later 1970s to the mid-1980s.

In the past, we've see a lot of bags with D6J prefixes, a prefix never used by Coach on bags.

I found a listing with a J plant, made in US text but (presumably) made in 1999. I can't recall seeing this prefix before: E9J. I have an opinion on the authenticity but would like others.

Comments: There are 2 current listings with E9J prefixes, both of which are Chinese-made authentic bags and the font is different from that akeenbean 's bag.

Just wanted to add a little sparkle to my Janice Legacy. Thank you!
It looks okay but I have to editorialize that it bugs me when sellers remove hangtags and sell something that either should be included with a bag or that they received free from Coach because they requested it.

ETA: And in looking at haute_in_san_francisco, I see that she does this quite a bit. Grrr.

Thank you! I will pass on it though because that is dishonest of her to do that. Would I be able to buy one directly from Coach?

I have requested free hang tags from Coach (both via email request to [email protected], and from a local outlet store) and they have been very accommodating. They don't sell them, and they may not be able to fulfill your request. You won't necessarily receive a close match, as you sometimes can on eBay.

I was unaware that Coach did belts back in New York when Coach was still copyrighted. Any insight on this?
