IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

I have requested free hang tags from Coach (both via email request to [email protected], and from a local outlet store) and they have been very accommodating. They don't sell them, and they may not be able to fulfill your request. You won't necessarily receive a close match, as you sometimes can on eBay.
Thank you! I would feel guilty about asking though because I do have the original black hangtag that comes with this bag. The charms that I do have are too big to attach to this handbag.

In the past, we've see a lot of bags with D6J prefixes, a prefix never used by Coach on bags.

I found a listing with a J plant, made in US text but (presumably) made in 1999. I can't recall seeing this prefix before: E9J. I have an opinion on the authenticity but would like others.

Item number - 272590513356

Comments: There are 2 current listings with E9J prefixes, both of which are Chinese-made authentic bags and the font is different from that akeenbean 's bag.

Authentic E9J creed:

The Beekman is fake. The padding above the turnlock is the wrong shape. The turnlock isn't centered on the tab.

Is that the going rate for a real one? Yikes...
I don't think so. Here is an authentic one really cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-COA...279590?hash=item41c1156726:g:oFsAAOSw~AVYrwUp
The missing hardware is pretty easy to find.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Replace...efcase-/321098997426?var=&hash=item76c4e248fe The strap would be harder to match but you can get one of those too, probably from the same seller as the hardware.

This one is reasonable too at the moment, and it isn't missing any parts: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Black...564583?hash=item4d575363a7:g:gycAAOSw03lY6Nx6

Thank you. I needed confirmation and now that I have it, there's another reason to avoid akeenbean.

For a seller with this many Coach items, she should either recognize obvious fakes (such as the following) or get them authenticated before listing.

This is another fake sold by akeenbean:

And the creed from that bag is rather interesting:

@whateve - I have a question about style 5266 Beekman bags. (@noshoepolish might chime in too.)

In looking at listings that I'm positive are authentic, the front flap with the female part of the turnlock differs on various bags. Some have a row of stitching and raised pillow area above the turnlock hole and others do not have it.

Did they alter the style between 1995 and 1996?

Posting listings and pictures of examples.

Yes they did. The shape of the turnlock changed too. Maybe those square turnlocks are sturdier.

Here's another weird one. I looked at the seller's other listings (current and completed) looking for a possible mixup of pics. I didn't find another listing for this color or style of bag.

Concerns: Creed looks right for a Beekman but the bag shown isn't a Beekman. The next-to-last picture shows the turnlock flap but the bag shown doesn't have a flap.

Stolen pictures?

ETA: I thought I may have misread the creed (5265) but the style number is definitely 5266 and it still doesn't explain the picture with the flap.

Indeed, the second to the last photo (of the pocket with the creed stamp) clearly shows a tab on the flap which is consistent with the #5266. Unfortunately, it conflicts with all the preceding photos. Apparently another case of mix and match photo displays wherein what bag a buyer will actually be getting remains a mystery. Obviously one for bidders to hopefully work out with the seller beforehand. I trust that any interested party will contact the seller and ask that they "fix" their listing and clarify what actually is being auctioned off. With (1283) feedbacks and a 100% rating, one would expect more. Especially if they wish to avoid valid NAD claims and having to pay for return shipping.

Comments: I have no plans of bidding on this bag but this listing made me SMH and I'm no expert. There is no way that bag is from the 70's because if I'm reading the creed correctly it was made in 2001.
Another problem is the lining. Did they make these bags in the 70's with a lining?
Thoughts?
