Oh no! Thanks for telling me. I had problems with the PM website yesterday... I hope the link is ok now. So, could you please authenticate this bag? Thank you in advance!

Comments: What I am not sure about is...
  • the shoulder strap - probably a replacement, but is it a Coach original?
  • the style number - thought it should be 28163 instead of 32503
  • the missing leather straps on the zippers
The link you posted works. It's just that it brings you to an advertisement before letting you go to PM. (I needed to click this: skip these deals & continue to poshmark.com )

I generally don't authenticate poshmark listings because I find the whole site a cesspool of fakes where sellers lie about authenticity, block posters whose questions they don't like or who call them on the questionable authenticity of the listing and admin on the site has NEVER removed a reported listing. I won't patronize the site myself nor do I want to help them make money on sales from the few honest sellers there.

That said, the seller in question seems open and honest enough in her answers to your questions but her pictures are woefully inadequate. The pictures that are there are dark and not well focused and the listing is missing pictures necessary to authenticate the bag.

Where the seller got the style number, I don't know since she doesn't show the creed nor the labels from inside the bag. Or it's possible that (assuming authenticity), a Macy's customer or employee did a tag switch, attaching a wrong style tag to that bag.

You can't depend on sellers to accurately describe style names and numbers of their items because often what they do is google similar styles and assume that theirs is the same.

I definitely think she attributed the wrong style number to the bag she's selling because that style (32503) is for a color block bag which that listing is not.

The New York factory stopped using the Made in New York City USA stamp by 1988 when Coach started to open several new plants. The factory itself stayed open as a secondary plant until around 10 years later while gradually decreasing production. A few sample styles trickled out of the plant for a few more years after that. Coach never gives any official dates for plant closings.
i
BTW, if you got that 1970s date from some online "guide", please ignore it and any other information from the same guide. There's a lot of really BAD information on the internet including copies of so-called guides with totally screwed up dates and production information.
Thank you so much, Hyacinth - there definitely is a lot of information out there and some of it is conflicting, so I'm really glad this forum is here!

Thank you @BeenBurned for telling me about poshmark. I'm new to their website, so I didn't know about the fakes and other stuff that's going on there. I can understand why you don't authenticate bags from their website.

Nevertheless I have asked the seller on poshmark for a picture of the creed stamp and serial number. I am looking for a Coach mini borough bag in oxblood for quite some time now and I was so happy to have finally found one. I need to be sure that it's a fake before letting it go...

Do you have any recommendations for other websites that I should look into for a Coach mini borough bag in oxblood?

Just a bit more from my notes - That small -73** line was called "Coach Companions" and may have been intro'd in 1996 with plain black lining, which was changed to the Logo lining in 1997.

The 4170 style may have been the equivilent of a pilot bag since the number seems tucked in between some 1997 Sohos and Flatiron (4172-4179) styles, there's nothing else that it resembles on either side of the style number sequence.
Thank you. I have these styles in that range: 7301 flap shopper, 7302 Medium top handle tote, 7304 lunch tote, 7307 legal tote. No official catalog pages other than the one you just posted. Are there any other styles I'm missing?

Just a comment regarding similarities/differences between 4170 and 7301.

Although they look similar and although there can be variation in measuring techniques, there seems to be a difference in height between the two bags, indicating (IMO) that though similar, they aren't the same and would explain why there are 2 different style numbers.

Wearforless_7 describes the height of style 4170 as 12"
Aer_thrift describes the height of style 7301 as 10.5"

Both describe the width/length as 13"
and depth seems similar from both sellers.

And for the record, from the catalog that @Hyacinth posted, Coach described 7301 as 13 x 13 x 5.
So I just measured mine and the width is definitely 13". However I can't get 13" height no matter how I measure it! It's 10.5" from the back and 12" max from the front if it's flat. So I have myself a QC fail I think. Lol! IMG_20170317_202025.jpg

Don't feel bad, no one has ever been able to figure out exactly how Coach measured their bags. Consider their measurements to be educated guesses.

There's also a 7303 Large Tote, pic below. Those are the only ones I have. I'll add a thumbnail of the first page too

Hi again ladies!
Boy, houseof 999's green flap shopper is stunning! Very jealous of that one.

Are these little bags authentic? These look like glove tanned; it doesn't state so on the creed, but they look very soft.

Came back and added a third one because second is missing leather pull.

Thanks for your time!

Genuine Ergo Small Zip. It's not the super thick leather of the vintage bags. Ergo styles usually use a lighter-weight leather, the original family name for the line was Lightweights..

I'll look again at the pictures when she sends them. In addition to the creed, as described in post #1, we also need to see the other labels that should be inside the bag. (Sometimes they're hard to find.) There's a made in tag, usually sewn into a seam in the main compartment of the bag. The other white tag with production/serial information is more difficult to locate. It's usually buried deep inside the zipper pocket and she may have to dig to find it.
