Thank you and be safe!

Thank you so much, Whateve! Interesting to learn about the single-sided hang tag and to know approximately when it was made. I wasn't sure when the New York factory stopped making purses and was wondering if it could be from the 70's!

The New York factory stopped using the Made in New York City USA stamp by 1988 when Coach started to open several new plants. The factory itself stayed open as a secondary plant until around 10 years later while gradually decreasing production. A few sample styles trickled out of the plant for a few more years after that. Coach never gives any official dates for plant closings.

BTW, if you got that 1970s date from some online "guide", please ignore it and any other information from the same guide. There's a lot of really BAD information on the internet including copies of so-called guides with totally screwed up dates and production information.

Comment: ok why does this bag have the striped lining but is not a Sonoma? Was the lining used by mistake?

Also, I have a bag in style 7301 that looks exactly like it but with different lining but from the following year, same plant. So did Coach just change the style number of this bag?

This is the bag I have:

Other likes besides the Sonomas used that striped lining.

I don't have any information on a style 4170 although it seems ok. I won't comment on yours without a creed and serial number photo.

And to repeat what we keep saying - the ONLY valid comparisons are between genuine bags with the same exact style number, date and plant codes, and sometimes not even then.

I have several photos of 4170 in my files but no official name. I've seen it several times. I don't have anything in my files about #7301, but I did find this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-COA...753279?hash=item1ec2a726ff:g:r5cAAOSwax5Yukms
It appears to be authentic. It isn't unusual for Coach to use a different style number if they changed something about the style. We can't confirm that your bag is authentic without seeing pictures of it.

Welcome to the forum. The link in your original post is not working.
Oh no! Thanks for telling me. I had problems with the PM website yesterday... I hope the link is ok now. So, could you please authenticate this bag? Thank you in advance!

Comments: What I am not sure about is...
  • the shoulder strap - probably a replacement, but is it a Coach original?
  • the style number - thought it should be 28163 instead of 32503
  • the missing leather straps on the zippers

Thanks for posting the correct link. Please see post #1 of this thread for information needed to authenticate:
  • ...a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one...
  • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
I'm not qualified to authenticate this style, but one of the other authenticators might be able to help you if the required information is provided.

@Hyacinth @whateve Sorry couldn't get the pics yesterday. Here are the pics:

Both this one and the brown one are genuine. Coach probably decided to make a similar style with a different style number. That's just one reason why you should never compare different style numbers. Your green one was called a Flap Shopper.

BTW, the stamping on the magnetic snap is a much more dependable indication of authenticity than any zipper stamp could ever be. It's never necessary to try to photograph the zipper stamp because it can't prove anything. The only exceptions are photos of YKK stamps on zippers in obviously fake bags, and that's just to use as proof of what we keep saying about that bogus "YKK Rule".

I can't find anything on 4170, but here's 7301 from the Summer 1997 catalog:

Thank you!

Just a bit more from my notes - That small -73** line was called "Coach Companions" and may have been intro'd in 1996 with plain black lining, which was changed to the Logo lining in 1997.

The 4170 style may have been the equivalent of a pilot bag since the number seems tucked in between some 1997 Sohos and the Flatiron (4172-4179) styles, there's nothing else that it resembles on either side of the style number sequence.

Just a comment regarding similarities/differences between 4170 and 7301.

Although they look similar and although there can be variation in measuring techniques, there seems to be a difference in height between the two bags, indicating (IMO) that though similar, they aren't the same and would explain why there are 2 different style numbers.

Wearforless_7 describes the height of style 4170 as 12"
Aer_thrift describes the height of style 7301 as 10.5"

Both describe the width/length as 13"
and depth seems similar from both sellers.

And for the record, from the catalog that @Hyacinth posted, Coach described 7301 as 13 x 13 x 5.
