Huh. In my fake and suspicious numbers list (copied from ebay guides), it says J8P prefix is ALWAYS FAKE (their italics, not mine). Actually, not sure who wrote the list but I check things with it.
Sorry.
Just read Part One of the same guide which says. 'all J8P prefixes stating made in the United States are fake."
Part 2 does not clarify, states they are all fake.
I either copied it wrong or they got it wrong.
Was under the impression Hyacinth helped write this particular guide but not so I guess.

Double post.

I've emailed Daria48 with the information.

Ladies, I found this bag at my local consignment store. It looks a bit man handled but if authentic, could be a project for me to work on.

Thank you for your thoughts and opinions. I think it's the Coach City Bag in British Tan, but defer to your judgement as my experience with older bags is nil.

It's fine. It appears to be a city bag. Remember if you actually want an ID, you need to provide measurements for bags that don't have the style number in the creed.

Thank you, whateve! I'll locate a tape measure now to measure and post in the ID thread. I better get out the Dawn, Brasso and Lexol conditioner. Looks like I have a fun project ahead of me!

Help. I cant read the serial info on this bag. Im trying to find the name of this bag. The creed is not readable and there is no white tag inside (like the new bags have). Its the same size and body as the large phoebe but only has one top handle and doesnt have the 3 conpartments like the phoebe. it has ideal brand zippers and the leather and interior is identical to my phoebe bags but ive never seen this style or these hangtags. can someone help
I don't think there's a serial number on that creed.

Please dig deep into the zipper pocket and feel around the pocket seams, particularly at the bottom. I don't know whether you can turn that pocket inside out to find it.

I don't see anything indicating that the bag isn't authentic but I'm pretty sure there should be a tag in the pocket.

Yes thats my problem. There is nothing on the creed and no white tag. I authenticate bags and have been collecting for 15 years and have never seen this bag. All of it looks authentic, so not sure if the tag inside got ripped out or if this was a test bag or sample bag. Its driving mr crazy. lol

If indeed it's a "sample," you have a problem. You can't prove it authentic and we can't authenticate it.

Note that if you search this (Coach) subforum, you'll find a lot of posts about bags that are claimed to be "samples," but no sellers have had receipts, bags with serial numbers have either incorrect serial numbers and date codes for the styles of bags or they have 99999 as the style number.

Some that I've seen are definitely fake and with others, authenticity couldn't be determined. Some of the definite fakes are close.

I always recommend never buying any claimed sample bag unless it's a bag you love and plan to use yourself. Don't try to sell one.

For the bag in question, you have the lining pulled out of the bag. I feel like I'm repeating myself and please understand that I'm not doubting you but are you sure you felt around inside the pocket and not just the seams in the lining?

haha. no worries at all. I totally appreciate your help. That was my convern is I buy bags, use them and sell them when Im done. So dont want to risk my 100% feedback since I cant prove its real. Oh and yes i felt around inside. I have 14 coach bags with the white tags, so I know all about those and where to look. Im not gona risk it like u said. thank u soo so much !

It was me entirely. Went to guide by Darla48 and both Part One and Two under update of J8Y and J8H prefixes clearly state Made in the United States for J8P, but check Costa Rica bags too. I did not have that written with the numbers I wrote.
My mistake.
Really good guide and I recommend it to everyone.
What was the double post?

No, it wasn't your mistake, I checked Daria's guides before I emailed her since she and I work together on keeping her guides up to date, and she'd made a mistake that she corrected immediately. Glad to see she was so quick.

Can anyone tell me whether these bags are authentic? The seller is on a Facebook group and I'd like an idea of whether the bags are genuine before I message her to see if they're still available. Thank you! I'm sorry, since they're on FB I don't have the measurements. I'm pretty sure the first is a (wannabe?) Willis, I don't know what the others are.

Hello,

I come from the watch world and there is a huge problem with fakes. Over the years the fake watches have become so authentic looking that most cannot tell the difference and like this thread over at the watch forum there is a similar one to help the community.

With that said, we also have rules before buying, that are almost identical. Of course, I followed none of them for my first online coach purchase :(

Of course, I am now doing this after the fact. Thanks so much.

We get many new people that will post a watch asking for authentication. The fakes are 90%+ given to them from an uncle. The real ones from a grandfather. Just wondering if you have something similar here?

Thanks!!

All three look good. The second is probably a Brighton bag and the third probably a Crosby bag. All are from the early 90s.
