So Hyacinth, Is SportsCoach something that should be legal to sell as long as it is pointed out that it is NOT Coach, or is it something that's considered a counterfeit Coach?

Technically it's Keyword Spamming by the seller ONLY IF they list or describe it as "Coach". If it's only referred to as a SportsCoach, one word, it's perfectly legal to sell. The one referred to in the previous post is only called a SportsCoach and is legal. Listing it as a Sports Coach, two words, is a gray area since it would be picked up by Ebay's Search feature as Coach and could be Keyword Spamming depending on the rest of the description.

To my eyes it's a clear case of counterfeiting or at least an attempt to confuse or deceive by the Korean manufacturer, especially since they copied the Coach creed almost word for word and even used "New York" in the name , but I believe the company is out of business so it's a moot point now.

It's a good idea that anyone who plans on listing one of them not only be very careful about exactly how they list the name, but they should cover their arses and say right in the listing that the SportsCoach company has no connection at all to the Coach Inc. that most people are familiar with.

I also would think it was an attempt to sell their product using the Coach name, too bad Coach couldn't take them to court in USA. As stated, I was just curious & have no intension of buying or selling a product that tried to profit (And did, I guess) off the name & reputation of another company.

I agree. The seller of this listing in question is one of the few (if not only) sellers I've ever seen list a "SportCoach" bag with no attempt to deceive. In title, item specifics and description, she called it SportCoach. For that listing, there's nothing to report!

Hello authenticators.

Comment: I have never seen a Costa Rica fake but most of the ones I have seen the plant code P always have been stamped a bit far from the number to it's left. Am I being paranoid cuz it's from Posh and it's really fine?

It seems that Costa Rica bags with "4" year codes were actually made in 2004, not 1994. They were almost the last of the non-China bags and the creed and serial number stamps were probably leftovers since Coach wouldn't spend money to upgrade an almost-defunct plant's stamping hardware. Most of them were probably made for, or ended up at, the outlets.

None of them can be considered fake unless there's something else seriously wrong with the bag. The plant was making do with what it had and the usual "rules" if there is such a thing don't apply here.

Although if you mention Coach Inc. in your listing due to this explanation, you might be guilty of keyword spamming! I think ebay's search feature may pick up SportsCoach as a Coach even when listed as one word.

I agree. A number of Korean companies tried to hijack the Coach name and it took the Korean courts about 6 years before finally deciding in favor of Coach. Over those 6 years Coach had become a recognized brand name in Korea (probably due to their opening a string of very successful boutiques in major Japanese department stores as well as their own stores, starting around 1990) and the Korean name-jumpers could no longer claim that the Coach name had no brand recognition in Korea and therefore was free for the taking, which had been one of the bases for their original claims back in 1990. The "golden age" of fake Korean Koaches seems to have started right around 1990 when Coach entered the Japanese market and became a target for the Korean fakers.

Good point, Whateve, I didn't think of that. :hrmm:

They could probably say something like "SportsCoach has / had no connection to the well-known US company with a similar name".

FAKE. The serial number has an invalid prefix, the C pattern isn't centered correctly, and the creed says the bag is made of COWHIDE. Doesn't look like cowhide to me. There are a LOT more problems I won't even go into. It's JUNK.

Is this on Craigslist since you need to look at it "in person"? Can you post the URL of the listing?

I saw all that just wanted to see what you'd say. It's actually on a Facebook listing. She actually hasn't posted it yet but I bought one previously that I'm sure is fake and she asked if I wanted this as well.

Tell her to find another buyer for her ILLEGAL counterfeits. She's violating US anti-counterfeiting laws by selling them and it's considered a felony offense..

If you want to post pics of the bag you already bought, we'll take a look at that too.
