In my opinion from just looking at the outsides, I think 8 are fake!

I am considering outbidding everyone just so I can ensure nobody gets stuck with them,
then returning them because they are fake.
What do you think?

I know someone who did that once (cough!) but she didn't admit it in a public forum. But she was very happy when the crooked seller disappeared from Ebay shortly afterwards. BTW, there was absolutely NO doubt that the seller in that case knew and had been told that the bag was fake.

Hi everyone-- I hope you don't mind my posing another ebay return question (seems like a day for them). I have a "no returns" policy on my ebay items (sorry but I'm just a small seller and have a hard time dealing with the whims and buyers remorse of so many buyers these days. As it is the unpaid cases keep me busy.) I make a point of posting many photos and a full description with measurements filled in, etc. Anyway, I've had a buyer request a return because she says it's not the size she was expecting. I checked and she is a buyer and seller of bags and has a number of Coach bags both currently and in her history. I would think she would know how to read size measurements and know what she was buying. Should I accept her return anyway? Is there a negative mark for her request and/or if I do or don't accept? She says if I don't accept she will just relist it herself. I'd rather her than me but does that make me a bad seller to say no?

I know this is not an authenticity question so I'm sorry. The people on here just seem like much more experienced in this than me. TIA
As a reseller myself I'd like to give you my opinion.
I purchased a group of bags that needed some "help", and when I got them
they STUNK of cigarette smoke.
The buyer had a no refund policy so I asked them if I could still return them.
I acknowleged that I should have asked first, not her fault.
I was willing to pay for the return shipping and the original shipping so she would not be out any money.
She basically told me "No way. If you are a seller you can easily resell them at a profit, just clean them up and don't whine. You go them for a steal of a price."
(Even made some comments about how I must be a ********** by the things I said...duh????
No clue what that was supposed to mean lol.)
I replied that if it was a steal she should have no problem selling them again, what was the harm?
Bottom line is I opened a dispute because of the reek of smoke,
and I LOST the case. Learned a big lesson as a seller and a buyer, ODORS are not a legitimate reason for returns of pre-owned items UNLESS the seller guarantees in her listing that there are no odors. I had no idea and was surprised when I lost the dispute.

But I want to say that I think she handled that situation terribly. As a seller, I would NEVER force
someone to keep something they were very unhappy with unless it hurt me in some way,
why not just be flexible and gain a new customer or referral?
Just my humble opinion!

I have a couple of suggestions.

She's admitting that it's her mistake in not understanding the measurements so if she were to claim SNAD, chances are she'd find herself on BBLs for her lie.

But the fact that she's agreeing to list it herself if you don't take the return bothers me a bit. Why even contact you if she's a seller and is willing to sell herself?

You can respond nicely, telling her that you appreciate her offer to resell and since you notice she's an experienced and trusted seller (kiss a$$ plus let her know you know she's able to do it), she'll have no problem getting her money back.

You can offer to take the return as a goodwill gesture but since the return isn't due to your own error, shipping in both directions would be at her expense.

Perhaps she'll realize that if she's out of pocket shipping, it might just be easier to sell it herself.
WOW, your post practically echos mine, probably written at the same time..lol.

I had no idea! I've bought smoky bags before. I guess I never tried to return them. There was one that reeked before I opened the box. I put the unopened box outside for a week before I could get near enough to open it!

Ebay keeps changing their policies. If you filed SNAD now for odors, you would win.

Nope, this happened less than a month ago, and I lost.

I had the rep confirm the policy regarding odors and she told
me in clear terms that pre-owned items don't qualify for SNAD
unless the seller states it has no odors.

(I too have received bags that had odors, but never tried to return them,
one bag I can deal with but this was about 6 and I paid around $200.)

I am really thinking that ebay case outcomes/decisions depend on who is handling your case. We just returned a bag that reeked of cat urine. Gross.... The case was in our favor, and the nasty thing went back. I even had to place it in my garage so the fur children would not smell it.

Unfortunately I think you are right, that there are not clear guidelines.
Or maybe the cat urine thing is not considered an assumed risk in a pre-owned item,
as cigarette smoke might be.

I sold an item that had no odors. When it was returned, it reeked of smoke. I didn't bother calling ebay to see what the policy is on receiving a return that isn't in the same condition it was sent. Now I wonder if ebay would have done anything about it. I wonder if it would protect you from stinky returns to declare no odors in the listing.

I bet they do consider cat urine to be in a different class. It has the gross out factor. However urine is sterile while I can have an allergic reaction to cigarette smoke.
