My bad , it is A1D-9950 , is the A1D part correct though ? Which month and year is it ?

Here's a guide to reading Coach serial numbers:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html

In your example, the A would indicate January, the 1 would indicate 2001, and the D would indicate the D plant. Hyacinth may have more specific information regarding which styles, if any, were produced by the D plant in 2001.

This is why a bag can't be authenticated just from the serial number. Please see post #1 of this thread for the information needed to confirm the authenticity of a particular bag.

Hi ladies,
Please authentic...
Goodwill online purchase, just arrived.
Name-I don't know
Serial No. 953-8927 appears to be a glued in tag.
Is this a 1985 vintage?
She is disgustingly dirty, but I like her just the same.
Would you soak to clean? I read some of the older bags fall apart if soaked.
Thanks so much

It is authentic.
According to this guide, the creed stamp with the "R" trademark symbol was used until the late 1970s. Your bag would be from that era. http://www.ebay.com/gds/Guide-to-Vi...d-Creeds-/10000000177697673/g.html?rmvSB=true
It should be fine to bathe it. You won't need to soak it more than about 15 minutes. The glued-in number will probably stay on, but if it falls off you can simply reglue it. It seems fine to me; please wait for other opinions.

Thanks again . Seemed authentic to me but it was much lighter in weight than one I had in the 90's . I so miss the old coach leather !
It is authentic. The leather should be similar to bags made in the 90s. It was made in the US in 2001. Some of the nicest leather I've felt came out of that plant in 2001. It might need rehabbing. A bath and conditioning will plump up that leather.

By the way, we never authenticate without pictures. Giving us a number doesn't help at all. Counterfeiters use fake numbers all the time, and posters often copy them wrong.

I've bathed these and never had a problem with the number falling off. I bathed one several times and the number didn't fall off. What you need to be careful of is the handles. Sometimes they soften. Check for cracks before you dunk. Don't keep the handles immersed too long. 15 minutes should be fine if they are in good shape.

I disagree with Sacs on the time period. I personally owned more than one bag with the glued-in number that was from the early 80s. They came with dated catalogs, one from 1983. By the way, Coach used the registered trademark symbol before registering their trademark. They didn't register it until after 1985 when Sara Lee bought the company.

I don't believe that the glued in serial numbers were the very first. I think they came about when they had more production and not enough stamping machines. I think Sacs agrees with me there but it is difficult to see from her timeline.
