You're welcome! I know that when a seller lists a Coach bag, a box pops up that tells them to make sure to have a picture of the "storypatch" but most inexperienced sellers ignore that. I think that ebay also sends sellers messages telling them how to improve their listings, such as including measurements and color, but I don't think that is very successful either. Sometimes I love bad sellers, though, because that is how I may get a bargain.
Understand completely, and have been lucky that way a few times. Probably helps to stick to the older leather bags too, up to a point?

I always look at the hall of shame pics, trying to learn from those, but dang!

Just out of mad curiosity, how many years does it take to develop a level of expertise like that you, and BB, and Hyacinth have? ( there's a dumb question for you)

Thanks for the pep talk, Hyacinth. I just feel bad pestering you all here constantly, but now you've asked for it!

Hey, if we DIDN'T want to be "pestered constantly", we wouldn't be doing this. We don't like to see people throw away their hard-earned money on fakes. And we especially want to put the scammers who are selling fakes knowingly and who just don't give a damn out of business. :noggin:

Speaking for myself, I've probably been looking for, collecting information on, and reporting Coach fakes since around 2004-05, when I first realized the extent of the problem.

I don't recall exactly when I started but it was on the old knowknockoffs forum, probably around 2006. At the time, there was a wonderful ebay T&S employee who read the posts and acted on the reports of fakes.

Unfortunately, as ebay does whenever someone is good at what they do, they fired him. Evidently the removal of fakes and naru'ing of scamming sellers cost ebay too much money.

I own a few coach bags I purchased at the boutique so I know they're authentic. Now I'm interested in picking up a few vintage (post 1994) court and willis bags (or anything British tan) and after reading they're commonly faked, I feel paranoid I'm going to buy a fake despite reading up on serial numbers and the like. I went back a few pages and didn't see these posted, I would appreciate your help authenticating these. Thanks :)

Comments: seller says the item was bought new in 2006, but with the numbers in the creed wouldn't the bag have been manufactured in 1994?

1- genuine, but the seller is either very confused or lying about the date, it WAS made in 1994

2- genuine but the body looks like it's been heavily conditioned or re-dyed or maybe even shoe-polished. The edges are showing much more wear than the rest of the bag - see the color difference? And the outside brass looks well-polished but unless it's a trick of the lighting that makes it look green, the inside pocket zipper might have a case of verdigris

3- Genuine, and it's just called a "Murphy Bag"

BTW, it might be better if you put the links on their own separate lines. Or are you using something other than a full-feature computer? That may be why the links in your post aren't functional.

What do you think of these?

They all look good. The second is called a Bleecker large flap. I have 3 of them! The red one is a Janice's Legacy made in 2002.

I have to disagree with Hyacinth about the condition of the court bag. I don't see any evidence of shoe polish. Bags with shoe polish usually look unnaturally shiny. Bags normally wear out on the edges first. If it was shoe polished, I think it would also be on the edges. A little conditioning would darken the color on those edges.

It really didn't take me that long. I'm the baby around here! My first posts on tpf were asking for authentications, after I had bought a few fakes and realized I didn't know what I was doing!

Someone posted a thread about some vintage bags they had gotten and rehabbed. It sounded like it would be fun so I started shopping for vintage bags. I quickly realized that I had to learn how to spot a fake if I didn't want to make mistakes. When hunting for bargains, you sometimes have to make fast decisions that don't allow time to get a bag authenticated, and even with ebay's money back guarantee, it is no fun trying to get your money back. You could always end up stuck with a bag that is questionable.

I read this thread and copied choice words of wisdom into a word document. I saved pictures of styles so I'd be able to identify them if I saw them again. It was very helpful to create a file of creeds so I could compare them. I started authenticating in order to pay it forward for all the help I'd received.

Thank you ladies, for responding.

And this Coach lipstick case?
From GW...
Approx. 3.5"w x 1.25"h x 1.5"d.
Any info like style number and age is much appreciated...thanks, again!
The Coach stamp on the front looks like it came out the same collection as the cosmetic cases 6987 -6989, which were made in 2002 and possibly some time before and after. I found a lipstick case #6910 on the wayback (I didn't save the date!) which doesn't look like it has the imprint but I can see one on the wayback with the imprint on Dec. 22, 2002. The individual link doesn't work so I can't see if it is the same style number. http://wayback.archive.org/web/2002...ail.asp?category_id=73&show_bc=1&showall=true

Thanks whateve. :urock:

I don't think it helps to stick to older leather bags since those are counterfeited too.
Thanks, whateve.
