Bookermouse- it is obvious that the 1 on the right is your noce montaigne,,and the fiasco bag ( the left), is it supposed to be the same style as the old petra you have purchased..it almost looks like it could be nappa umbria because there is a lot of "whiteness" to the sides of the weaves creating shadings on the bag..that is just what I see.
baggiana- 2 things, yes I have seen certificates of authenticity where you can the see ink through the other side of the certificate and they are authentic,,,and also, when my daughter lived in Italy we visited the BV outlet near Florence, and the venetas were not suede lined, but had like a canvas fabric lining instead of suede.. she also purchased one and brought it back here after..they are real...maybe they make some that way to cut costs and for resale at the outlet? RL is known to manufacture his clothing lines specifically for outlets

Hello ladies, I have spotted a nice BV, I am thinking about making an offer. Can you see if it is authentic from these pics? The seller has reported a few faults but I dont think they are major. I do have a hobo in black but it is not as well loved as this one. But I like this because it is a bit different. Your opinios would be appreciated. TIA

It is hard to tell; this is of a vintage I'm not familiar with. The leather and weave looks like BV should; what's left of the zipper pull looks ok too. This is probably late 80's early 90's? The font was used before Maier came in as designer, as I recall others saying.

I hope you'll get additional opinions, but I lean to authentic.

Thanks Boxermom, I thought it might be older. I wonder if the leather ages well, you would have thought it would. I will wait and see if any more opinions come up. Maybe someone else here has one too...
:okay:
Thanks

I was just looking at that one. I'd ask for closeup photos of the wear on the corners.

Agree with doreenjoy. When a seller mentions wear on a bag, IMO they should include photos of the wear/stains, etc. I'd like to know what the stain on the interior is from--looks like something spilled. Bag looks authentic.

Thanks doreenjoy and boxermom! I just asked and received answers - "scuffing slight, and won't show up in pictures"; stains are ink and and general darkening due to use [paraphrase]. Waiting for more pictures.

What did the leather feel and smell like? That is usually the giveaway.

How long will Caroldiva take to issue a report? Does this leave you enough time to authorize a cc chargeback if you need to take that route?
I am pulling for you! - keep us posted.

Firstly, I guess my little test wasn't a true test since I realize all you guys could pick out the Montaigne - duh!

As for the look and smell of the leather (if it was even leather) - it looked and felt oily and smelled like really bad chemicals.

As for a status update - I got the authenticity letter tonight and then minutes later, before I even had a chance to send it to PayPal, they email me to say I won the claim. WTF?! Four days ago they were going to close my claim if I didn't get the letter by March 14 - now they have changed their mind?! After I spend money on the letter? Or maybe they are psychic?

They are only covering $200 and will "attempt to get the balance from the Seller"... Yeah, as successfully as they have done everything so far... I'm just going to file the CC chargeback for the balance tomorrow and maybe I can use the letter for that! And then I wash my hands of this whole matter for good.

It's always best to go through the credit card company, not PayPal. I speak from a lot of eperience on that.

I'm sure your CC company will cover 100%.

BookerMoose, I think you have the right attitude. At the end of the day, it's not worth the aggravation.

I've been on Ebay since 1998 and the thing that really scares me now is not only the proliferation of fakes, but the fact that a lot of people are stealing pictures of real bags - so you might "authenticate" a bag, but still wind up with a fake, unless you or someone else has previous good experience with the seller. That's why people pooling their experience on sites like this is so important. I really think we need a good seller/bad seller sticky thread, as they have on some other sub forums... (I'm thinking Hermes, where the cost of some resale bags is comparable to BV).

I wholeheartedly concur! I hardly know which end is up in the first place, and having already been stung, found it difficult to buy, until recently. When I asked the seller (from whom I eventually bought) about her feedback, she told me that she was a member of tPF, and volunteered her ID. That gave me a chance to check, and feel very certain that I was dealing with an honest person, and buying an authentic bag. Otherwise, I worry so much, that I find myself unable to bid, even when one of you tells me that the purse is authentic - and even when it seems like the seller might be honest. I don't really know if this person is a "bait-and-switch" operator. I already know that tPF-ers feel ****** is legit, but what about others??? I vote for a good seller/bad sellers list!

^^Baggiana, the leather looks as if of poor quality (or being plastic, for that matter). I would ask for tags though, to make sure.

^deso, never seen this style either. Neither style nore colour. I`d ask for inside tags and a clearer pic of the plate.
