Thanks boxermom and C for the authentication! The brown looks so yummy... although it looks more like noce than ebano (description was dark brown). I'm gonna try my luck with it, and hope the bidding doesn't go up too high.

Wish me luck!

I am new at this, and just learning... probably making mistakes. I would really appreciate your view on the items below...Are these BV Sloane authenitic? - in particular look at the way the flap closes around the handles, and the authenticity tags.

I have tried to link back to all the reports, but they are not longer listed ebay, so that I can take a look. I am concerned about buying a counterfeit Bottega Handbag. Thanks, in advance for any help!

Both fake. The authenticity tags are clearly just reproductions of real tags but they don't have the perforations (and one is particularly badly cut off the "roll"). I see one auction has ended with a BIN - I really hope that wasn't you...

Yes, unfortunately, it was me. I did not find this blog until I received the purse today, and felt that it might not be authentic. Before I bid, I contacted the other buyer to ask if the bag was authentic, and her assessment of the seller. She replied that all was ok, so I, knowing little, proceeded. I then headed for Neiman Marcus, where I compared the bag there to this one, and determined that it was, indeed a fake. I wrote the seller telling her that it was fake, and I was returning it tomorrow, and requested a credit when the purse is received. Now, what else should I do? - definitely file a dispute with ebay and paypal, and my cc company. I want to have my money returned, but should I give her the opportuninty to do so first, or just proceed.

Now that I have found you, I will reframe from buying anything without doing further research. Thanks for your quick responses!

Sorry to hear that and I definitely feel your pain... the same thing happened to me just last month although in my case the pictures in the listing were real, but the bag I received was clearly a fake and not the bag in the pictures. I'm currently in the middle of a PayPal dispute with the Seller because although she admits the pictures were NOT of the bag she sold me, she now says that I damaged the bag when I had it and therefore will not refund my money because her resale value for the bag has therefore been reduced. Ugh.

Anyway, make sure you get signature confirmation on your return so that she cannot then claim she didn't get it back. And based on my experience make sure you document EVERYTHING about the condition of the bag with pictures and be sure to advise the Seller (over and above the fact that the bag is fake) whether there was also any "damage" to the bag when you received it.

Actually, I'm not even sure whether you should return the bag at this point - I did because my Seller was still being (somewhat) cooperative at that point and said she would refund my money if I complied with her return policy and returned it to her within 3 days in the original packaging... if you haven't yet heard back from the Seller and haven't been asked to return it you might want to check with PayPal about whether or not to return the bag right now, since it is really your best evidence that the bag is fake.

I also understand that the PayPal user agreement provides that you agree to resolve disputes through them before going to your credit card company - and that therefore filing a chargeback before doing so COULD breach your agreement with PayPal. I don't know if that ever happens, but just to be safe I haven't done so yet in my situation - as I can still do it if PayPal doesn't decide in my favour. You might want to ask PayPal that as well before doing anything further in that regard.

Good luck and I do hope it all works out okay for you in the end... everyone tells me to relax because ultimately I can do a credit card chargeback no matter what else happens in the PayPal dispute, and I just have to be patient - but I know that isn't easy when something like this happens...

I also hope this doesn't turn you off of Bottega Veneta because the real ones really are lovely!

Baggiana, Many of us are here because of fakes we bought. I bought a fake Veneta and decided I wanted to find out everything I could about the brand so it wouldn't happen again. Then I bought a Prada that turned out to be fake (seller feedback doesn't tell you whether a bag is real or not). At that point I decided if I didn't know absolutely that a bag is authentic, I will ask the informed people in each designer forum for their opinions. I hope the seller doesn't give you any trouble.
There are good deals on BV out there, and you can get one of them.

Well, I am between a rock and a hard place. Paypal does not want me to return the bag until they tell me to do it, and they mentioned that they might like me to go back to Neiman and get them to write a letter to the effect that the bag is a fake. That is asking alot of Neiman Marcus when I did not purchase the bag from them... I can ask, but I cannot guarantee they will comply, because they may not want to get involved. What if my refund hinges on this? I did take pictures of the purse - the back of the zipper, the lining of the zipper pocket, the tag, and the way that the handles are attached in such a sloppy and different manner from the real bag, and the general sloppiness of the attachement of the flap edging.

The seller claims in writing that she will return my money as soon as she gets the bag back. She also apologized (multiple times), and told me that she did not know that the bag was fake. She said that she was selling it for a friend. In all fairness, the pictures are accurate, and not of some other bag. I was able to reach her by phone, and she seemed willing to refund as long as she had the bag returned. She was also concerned about her feedback, and I told her that as long as the problem was resolved, and she refunded my money, I would give her positive feedback for handling the problem. I would like to have my money back. Is your seller the same as mine? or different (hopefully...)?

I did use my credit card, so I, too, can do a charge back.

I am not turned off BV, especially after handling the real ones today. I was just too uninformed to make this purchase. I did not really know the product, or the reliable sellers. There are too many fake BV's for me to buy on ebay at this point. I am just reeling, at this point. I cannot even think about replacement... Thank you for the information and support!

What a way to live!!! I cannot even think about buying anything else at the moment... I would vow to only buy from retail outlets, but years ago, my husband bought me a Cartier from a very reputable department store (now out of business). When I went to get it repaired, I was told that it was a fake. I couldn't believe it! In all fairness, I have been buying on ebay for about 8 years now, and this is the first time I have received a fake anything. Too bad this has such a big price tag. If there has been a problem, then the sellers have readily accepted returns for refunds - no problems. Perhaps, and hopefully, this will work out as well. I am so very pleased to have found this site, and only wish that I had found it earlier. I plan to follow your lead, and check with the informed.

They are different Sellers - mine was kicked off eBay but unfortunately not until AFTER I bought fiasco-bag. If your Seller is so apologetic, really didn't know the bag was a fake (although we've all heard the "I'm selling for a friend" excuse before...) and is legitimately concerned about her feedback, is she willing to refund your money as a good faith gesture BEFORE you return the bag? Or perhaps refund most of it but hold back a bit until she receives the bag back? Mine was okay with returning the bag and refunding me but then found another reason not to refund me when it arrived. Just a thought.
