Since I'm here and looking at these bags - any ideas about the authenticity of these guys (I love the yellow bag!)

Thanks so much. The vintage bag is really interesting looking - love the tassels. I'm so frustrated with eBay though that it almost seems like just saving for the bag and buying it new is the way to go. On the other hand, I have gotten some great bags from good eBay sellers at great prices. Decisions, decision! Good week all.
Best regards - Jacqueline

The 3rd bag (vintage) isn't as old as the ones I have, but from what I can see, I believe it's authentic. It's an interesting style and in good condition. Hopefully the price will stay low if you're interested in bidding.

Great to have you back boxermom! I think we managed okay with Authenticate This in your absence, but it sure is comforting to know you are back "on the job" and we're back in your capable hands to make sure we all don't get led astray!!

Hi all,
I know this ends really soon, but if anyone happens to be around, I'd love an opinion! Also, if it is a good one, I'm a bit confused by the sellers dimensions, they say 12" long x 9.5" high. Is that backwards? Thanks so much!

What auction are you referring to, HuskyLover?

You guys have been great with the authenticating. The more people who look at these, the better our collective opinions are. I'm glad to be back.

Whoops, I guess it would have helped if I had posted the link, duh! The auction has ended, but this is the bag I was referring to:

Auction is over, but it's still interesting to speculate on authenticity. I have never seen a BV where the weaving isn't on the diagonal; this bag's weave is straight horizontal and vertical except for the handle. and something about the look of the leather just looks off. I'm not sure about the zipper pull either. I would not have bid on it--I believe it's fake. Any other opinions out there???:shrugs:

I always have a hard time with these older, used ones. How long have people been making BV fakes (not inspired bys, actual fakes)? I thought it was a relatively recent phenomenon, but maybe that's just a misconception. I wish we had a source at the company or in law enforcement (or even a slimy faker) who could tell us whether they were faking BVs years ago. It's not only an old tag, it's a used bag, so we'd have to assume that someone made a fake BV with the older authenticity tag, someone else bought it and used it quite a bit, and now it's being sold. It just doesn't strike me as plausible, but probably I'm naive.

Here's another BV bag that seller had:

hovercraftier, you bring up a very valid point that I wonder about myself--how long have they been faking bags and specifically BV? I, too, assume people wouldn't have bothered years ago, but I don't know for sure. On the black woven one, my biggest red flag is the direction of the weave. If anyone has seen a real BV with this style, I'd love to know. I've only seen diagonal on old and new bags. The bag you pointed out looks real--from the Marco Polo line. Maybe since they both look the same age, they are authentic? Now I'm questioning my first impression. I still wouldn't have taken the risk--the black woven one just doesn't look like BV leather to me, but without seeing it IRL, it's a guess.

I've tried asking (doing my best to be subtle) BV people various questions that would help determine authenticity. They are very quick to shut down on information if they think your question has to do with real v. fake. They avoid it like the plague.

So we combine our thoughts and knowledge and do the best we can.

I also wonder about that bag. I`ve actually never seen the weaving not being diagonal.

On the other hand, I, too, cannot believe they fake BVs for such a long time already. I mean the brand has been under radar for quite a long time, even after Tomas Maier stepped in and until the Gucci Group acquired it, there was hardly anyone knowing about those bags. Plus, it used to be not so expensive at times, so what would have been the point of faking a bag that nobody recognizes and could afford as an authentic piece. The motive for such a fake-buy would lack, no?

Hi all thanks for the great feedback. That awful Sloane ended up selling for close to $1,400 I think. Bummer for whoever got ripped off. My "hearts desire" (what I've been looking for) is a black hobo lie one I had circal 1995 and lost in a house move. So here is one on eBay that looks authentic - what do you all think (and thanks once again).

Boxermom; hovercraftier; c_24,
Very interesting, all of your thoughts. I'm kind of glad I didn't bid, although it did go for a very reasonable price (if it is real!).

It seems like every BV I'm interested in are always the odd ones. My skills at authenticating bags are limited to Kooba, older Coach, and I'm getting pretty fair at Balenciaga, but totally lost on BV and prada!

Thank you very much for your input, as I said, very interesting. I'll be back with the next one I find for your opinions!

^^Jacqueline, no red flags for me so far, the tag looks good and so does the edge of the woven leather which sometimes is a giveaway.

The price is reasonable, too.

I bought my bianco Montaigne from that Seller and it is definitely authentic, if that helps. And no red flags to me from the pictures, either.

Thanks BookerMoose and Clause - just did BIN for the BV hobo. I'll have to make sure I don't lose this one... :) . It was one of my favorite handbags so I'm a happy purse fanatic today (and every day). Best regards - Jacqueline
