Hi, is this real Bottega? I got this bag while ago.
The leather feels great but there is no mirror came with it. Does anyone tell me what leather is this also? I am still new to Bottega.
thanks,

Authentic! Who knows why you did not receive a mirror - perhaps this rendition of the Veneta did not come with one, or just as likely, the seller removed it from the bag before selling it. It is the handbag that is the most important, IMO, and the mirror is a perk. Enjoy your beautiful ebano Veneta!

Thanks so much Boxermom +Baggiana I really appreciate your informative help. I will have to ponder more now.

Baggiana I really appreciate your detailed comments re the protection. It is so great to get that advice from an expert. I have a wonderful cognac Fendi spy bay but I am too scared to use it because I fear it will be easily damaged without protection and the advice from the Fendi forum is to not put anything on it as it could damage the nappa leather. If it stains to take it to an expert. My problem is that experts are only in big cities and I live in the South of France away from a really big city and I want to use my bag!:graucho:
I think though that the Fendi spy leather would be very similar to the BV leather? Or perhaps I am wrong.:push:

sac, I am not a leather expert (but I know one), and I cannot even pretend to know anything about Fendi spy (though I love the way they look!), and the leather from which it is made. I can tell you, however, that the leather used by BV is some of the finest, softest, and most luxurious I have ever touched. Is cognac similar to our noce? If so, darkening of the unprotected - even protected bag may be part of the aging process... And we are all a bit over-cautious and baby our bags! If it were my bag, I would obtain the Apple Guard (if you want to be really safe...you can find it online) or something without silicone and spray on the bottom of the bag, or someplace that is not noticeable. Better to spray lightly 2-3 times, waiting 1 hour between each spray, then one heavy spray. You do not want to wet or saturate the leather, and change its color and feel.

My take on the protection vs. non-protection: I do not operate as a museum. I want to wear the bag! Wear shows in the form of dirt, darkening, scratching, and water-stains and softening of the leather and drape. Sometimes this is called patina, and is highly valued (as in silver and antiques, and sometimes leather). But a dirty, damaged purse is just that. I apply protectant to reduce water and soil stains. And I enjoy every minute that I carry my bags!

You may want to try the protectant on a small, hidden section first. Any problems will be apparent. Please let me know how it goes. Best of luck!!!

Hi all can someone check this one out for me? I'm feeling pretty good about it, wish there were some more pics to go on.

Previously authenticated by boxermom - and I agree, it is authentic. It has an older dust bag maybe unused, but not a recent purchase, and the BIN is higher than current retail. Current retail from BV for this medium Veneta is $1480, I believe.

Baggiana I agree with you completely. I know the BV leather a friend has one and it is divine and I am sure it is of a similar suppleness to the F ones. Mine looks so unprotected it looks like it wouls soak anything up.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me the full name of the apple product and I'll see if they ship it to France and then I'll feel brave enough to use my bag!:graucho:
Thanks again...

mikscloset, in case it helps your decision, the owner told me she bought the veneta from bluefly a couple years ago and used it a handful of times - so not a recent purchase exactly as Baggiana thought. this bag has been relisted numerous times, probably because of the high BIN. i would assume she bought it for slightly under retail since it is bluefly.

Authentic:tup: - and luscious! The dustbag indicates that it is not a recent purchase, and I feel good about the seller, dispite of his use of hyperbole (which always makes me chuckle). Note: this is the medium size. You might ask him to describe the signs of wear with pics if necessary. I know that time is short... good luck!

I am guessing that the shipping will be high, but maybe worth it??? You might pint out the page and take it to your local shoe maker, and find out if they have something similar. You must feel free to wear that gorgeous bag!!!

Baggiana
Thanks for that ok - yes he's funny but sells good stuff!
I am tossing up between that and the all woven ones (ie no solid bits). Is this a good price considering it's old?
Best

I'm sorry - it's over... yes, it was a fair price, if the condition was good, which I suspect that it was. I hope that you got it, if you wanted it.

With regard to solids, I have one fabulous ebano extraordinarily-large circle bag, that I just adore... having it as an intrecciato (woven) would not improve my appreciation for it one iota. The leather is just so amazing, and the bag drapes so beautifully - I love it as a solid!

Hi guys I missed out. I wasn't expert enough in the values etc so wasn't prepared to go beyond a certain level. :shrugs:Oh well next time. I'll do some more research. Thansk all for your help. I really appreciate Baggiana your help re the leather protection issue. You have said very sensible and well thought out things I will get some non silicon protector and start on a hidden section. Your area of the forum is very helpful, friendly, speedy, informative and authoritative. Great all round!:graucho:
Thanks

I don't have a Spy, but I've used the Apple Guard on a Prada natural-colored deerskin, and it did a beautiful job. No staining, darkening, or stiffening of the leather. I'm definitely going to use it on other light colored bags in the future. I will still test on a small area first, though. Better safe than sorry!
