Hi,
I'm new to the Purse Forum, and would like to add a new post to the Authenticate This Bottega Veneta forums to get some help authenticating a BV vintage bag I got at an estate sale. I registered, and was activated, but when I try to add a new post, it says I'm not authorized to do so. Can you please let me know what I'm doing wrong, or if there's something else I need to do to be able to add a new post?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome, RoxieGirl! In this thread we just post in the reply box and click on advanced to add photos. You aren't starting a new thread. So if you read post #1 of this thread which describes the photos we need and can post them (I'm very computer-challenged so if you need help with that I hope someone else will jump in) we will do our best to authenticate your vintage bag.

You probably will need to post an exterior photo, an interior photo, especially one that shows the metal plaque with the name stamped into it, any authenticity tag if the bag is recent enough (the oldest BV's don't have a separate tag sewn into them). On the vintage bags, a photo of the zipper pull is helpful too. I hope I haven't confused you.

We're glad you're here!:yahoo:

Hi, I found this at a consignment store today and although I do trust them and gotten quite a few authentic bags from them before the fact remains I've never seen this BV style before, in fact it looked more like a Chanel when I first saw it. I hope you authenticate it for me. I've done searches and I can't even find the style this is. What I can tell you is that it's patent leather, the chain is really heavy and it just has a general feel like it's older but still in amazing shape. TIA!

Hi, it's authentic vintage and beautiful! Yes, it's heavy, but nothing can take away from that lovely gold chain :graucho: That style really holds up well over the years and it's nice and roomy inside. I don't know the style name if it has one. Congratulations on a wonderful find!

Dear Miss_FancyBags or others moderator who can help,

I saw accross a Bv beg and I would like to ask your help to verify the Authenticate. This would be my first time buying the luxury brand bag, I hope to get an authentic one of course :)

I attach the pictures here for your reference.

Thank you for your reply and I am very grateful for all your answer.

Hi, we have a format for authentications - please see post 1 of this thread. For this bag, we'd need to see a snapshot of the zipper pull and the engraving on it & the back and front of the authenticity tag at a minimum. Also, the name of the seller who you're thinking of buying it from and the link to the auction if there is one. Here's the format that makes it easier for the authenticators:

Item Name:
Listing number:
Seller name or ID:
Working Link:
Comments:

I'll be offline for a while, but the other authenticators (TDL, doloresmia, boxermom, baggiana, blueiris, and our moderator, jburgh) will probably check in soon!

Welcome to BV! :smile1:

Thanks so much for the info, Boxermom! So, I'll put the details here:

Item Name: Vintage Bottega Veneta tote
Seller name or ID: Mine
(See attached pics)
Comments: Purchased at an estate sale, it has a smaller, tighter weave than the newer bags so I wanted to make sure it's authentic. The interior was pretty holey, so I took it to a Bottega Veneta store here and they sent it off for repair and put in a new interior lining. Other than that it's all original. There is only a metal name plate, no tag in this bag. If you need to see any other pictures, let me know. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Hi & welcome, RoxieGirl! If BV NY replaced the lining, then it's authentic. They'd know right away. :smile1:

If another leather shop replaced the lining, here are my thoughts: this era of bag should have an authenticity tag inside and I would have thought that if the lining was replaced, the tag would be put back. This era of tags didn't rip/get damaged like the previous ones were known to do. Is there a zippered pocket? No tag in there?

Can we see a picture of the metal zipper pull? I think I see one in the 3rd picture but maybe it's a reflection. A picture of the interior would help. Can you describe the damaged lining before it was replaced?

I'm not sure that the leather zipper pull is original, too.

Hi Miss FancyBags!
Thanks for your advice. I'm attaching a couple of pics of the interior, and the zippered pocket with zip pull...one with flash, one without.

I looked again, and there is no tag. The second picture from the first post is of the zipper pull, but not a very good shot, sorry! Also, the leather pull on the zipper was there when I got the bag, but don't know if it's original to the bag?

The original lining (if i remember correctly) was a silky black material, not exactly the same as the new interior. I did take it to Bottega Veneta here in Hawaii, but not sure where they sent it to get repaired??

Hope that info helps...
Let me know what you think!

Hi, RoxieGirl - thanks for the additional pics. It's really difficult to give an opinion on authenticity when something as integral to a bag like the lining is replaced. Especially when the bag has this less common weave (which has been done in authentic BV vintage bags, but I just don't see many around and have only handled a few of them). The metal tag is authentic - that I feel confident in saying :)

Since BV repaired it and you probably still have the receipt, you could maybe talk to the repair person (probably in NY) who handled the repair and your SA who sent the bag out if you need assurances that it's authentic. From what I see, I can't give an opinion...there are just too many markers missing at this point.

Maybe another authenticator or PF member will give an opinion :)

I would enjoy the bag if I were you - it's lovely regardless! :smile1:

P.S. Does the magnetic snap have "Bottega Veneta" engraved on it? I think I see that in pic 1 and that would be consistent with the era of the metal tag.

P.S.S. Make sure you keep the repair receipt!!

The zipper pull is authentic... and original for this period and production. There was an odd period in the later 90's when this bag was produced. I have a nero cervo backpack - unlike most of those we now see as vintage - that has the same zipper and a fabric lining sounding like what you had before the replacement - fabric with BV logos raised on the surface. My backpack has the brown authenticity tag right under the zipper. These tags were often torn or removed as they tended to get stuck in the zipper. The zippers were nylon.

Your bag is authentic and all except for the lining (which you had replaced) is original. As MFB suggested, please keep the repair slip so if you do ever re-sell, this will help with the authentication.

Thanks so much TDL and missfancybags! Your right it is beautiful, I can’t believe for a vintage bag it doesn’t have more wear and tear, even the gold chain doesn’t look faded or worn. It’s too bad I can’t even place a date on it but I love it regardless, plus for $120 I think it's worth it. Thanks again.

Thanks so much, Ms. Fancybags and Baggiana! All that info is really helpful. I did keep the repair receipt, thank goodness!

Also, now that Baggiana mentioned a similar bag, I do remember the original lining having the BV logos on the material.

Again, thank you so much for all your help! I feel much better about the bag being authentic now.

Ciao!

Hi, could you experts help me with this bag? Thank you so much!!

Hi, although I don't see any warning signs, the auction isn't showing the back and front of the authenticity tag. If the seller can post that, it would help us give an opinion! :smile1:
