Are There Any Handbags NOT Made In China?

One of my favorite designers Andrea Brueckner is made in NYC. I own her medium cognac saddle bag and the embossed basketweave is great (spilled apple juice on it on a flight and it wiped off without a stain). I also own her miel hamptons overnighter and it's great thick leather that holds up to a lot.

OK, guys, this is exactly the thread I was looking for.
Recently I stumbled onto a website called Etsy-people selling stuff they actually make themselves-and found tons of young designers who design and sew their handbags by hand, in their small studios around USA or in Canada (would Canadian handbag be considered American even though it is not made in the US :-) ?)
Anyway I fell in love with few designers and if anyone is interested here are the links, I am not affiliated with any one of them; one of the links is actually based in Ukraine, former republic of USSR, I thought I would share the link to see their amazing creations-nothing like that I have seen before-handbags are magical to say the least-see for yourself http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24491536

Etsy works like Ebay pretty much, except you do not have to bet to win the item-if it is available , you purchase, pay and you are done.

I especially like this handbag called Claudia-tons of pockets

Glad I found this thread. Very disappointed and will no longer support designers who have their goods made in China. I'm obviously limiting my choices but will feel much better in the end. Shame on what goes on and how many unsuspecting consumers have no clue.

Wow! I was just reading the different blogs when I came across this one and have to add my two cents. My defense AGAINST buying China imports is, if every one of us went on strike from buying bags (or anything LOL) from China, our country would have no choice but to start up industry here again. It would take some time but I think that is the only way. There is less than a handful of designers that TRULY manufacture from our country anymore. So if you want to support everywhere but here, it is your perogative, but eventually your grandchildren will be the ones affected!

The very high-end premier bags are mostly and I reiterate MOSTLY made in Italy or France. A friend of mine confided that there is a percentage that gets shipped to China but this is not for anyone's knowledge. She is in the manufacturing business and I am happy to say, makes her product right here in the good ole USA (or what's left of it!) Her buckles sometimes are made in France, which is how she knows this information. (She has her merchandise made in the same plant as another famous designer who splits his inventory between China and France) Please don't be shocked! Perhaps this is why I always have a hard time justifying paying $$$$$ for premier designer bags! Read some of the blogs! I am itching to buy a BV bag, but quite honestly, when it comes down to opening my wallet and paying for it, my fingers get numb! :graucho: That is probably the next bag that if I ever spend a fortune on will be the one. Not a Valextra or a Hermes or even a Chanel.:woohoo:

Sorry, I just felt like giving my two cents. I guess because my husband's business is in the toilet now because his industry left for China and he just doesnt want to fly there. So the next bag purchase I buy which will be made in China will be for very little money! Happy Shopping everyone! :D

May I ask why you will not be supporting designers who have their goods made in China? Is it just designer items or are you also not going to buy anything else made in China?

I live in the USA and 99.9% of everything I buy (and what is available) for daily use (necessities, etc) are all made in China.

I just feel that if we started manufacturing handbags here in our country and started competing with China, we would find people feeling a bit better. There would naturally be more jobs and pride would be number 1. I honestly believe our country is capable of knocking off an excellent flawless, high endhandbag! - Don't get me wrong. I own bags made in China but that is because I haven't any choices! I just feel we owe it to our country to start patronizing our country and boosting the economy!

I just read a few names of designers who design in the USA and I'm going to check them out and, if I love it, I'm going to wear it with love and pride!

This has been very important to me for a very long time. I have made it my mission to support independent designers that use quality materials and make all their bags here.

I fell in love with a couple bags from this designer, Brynn Capella.

She is based in Chicago and proudly makes all handbags here in the USA.

I have the Italian Morgana Varu Allison bag and I have to say it is the most gorgeous leather of any handbag I have ever had, hands down, the scent is heavenly and the bag very well made. I love that the strap adjust so that you can wear it cross body or shorten the straps and it fits perfect over shoulder ro arm. She imports these fine leathers and makes everything here in Chicago.

I, myself, would prefer to carry a bag completely made in the United States of America, but those things are hard to come by these days. I would love to support the country in which I live. It's like being "green" to me. You try to do as much as possible personally, to make a difference, that's all. I don't try to make my purchases to bash other countries.

Jalda, a small company in the Los Angeles area that makes gorgeous, unique clutches and larger bags. :smile1:
It's a Dutch designer named Jalda Hoff, and their customer service is so personal that she herself picks up the phone!

There's a good website (they have nice sales, too).

Funny...I just joined this site. I was looking at 2 of my Coach purses last night...thinking about passing them on... and I discovered they were made in China. For the prices they charge you would think they would not "invest" in cheap labor. I really don't like their return policy either! I'm currently looking at other options myself.

This is really starting to bother me..Coach uses cheap labor now & most all of our US brands have opted to manufacture in countries that provide cheap labor, rather than pay a decent wage for work.

I think this shift (not just handbags) it's a big reason we are in a recession.

I would like to support made in the USA bags, but can't seem to be able to find a list anywhere.

As it is now, I would rather spend my money on a bag made the US (or even in Europe) than support so called US companies that have farmed out labor to China.

Any suggestions?
