Are There Any Handbags NOT Made In China?

Sadly (in a way of speaking) I just don't have the aesthetic tastes for any of these American designer bags I Googled or clicked on. I have a "Coach on up" aesthetic.

That's more important to me, than USA labor.

Someday, my own line may come out. Maybe in 1.5 years my DBF and I can start really making them. I think it's probable. :-)

hey I came across a brand I hadn't heard of before...."Floto"

Made in Italy. (Tuscany) Well, it's not the US, but at least they are not made in China.
They said they are made the old style, with the old fashioned leather artisans. Sounds cool to me.
The good thing is the price point....they seemed to be muc cheaper than these other bags.
(In the low hundreds)

Boy, I'd recommend Tod's, as I love that brand, but they can get pricey, compared to what you mentioned. They are made in Italy.
You could always get a Tod's on sale and find a deal. They would last you like forever.

I just bought an $800 dollar Michael Kors (not Michael) clutch from Nordstroms and the label said "Handcrafted in China". What kind of BS is this? This is going straight back!

Woo hooo!! Good for you! Thank you!

Yeah, it's total BS. Please.

If youi're going to have it made in China, give us the made in China prices.
(Sarcastic)

They farm out the labor, etc., then pocket all of the profits. Probably goes to advertising, store costs, executive salaries, etc.

May I ask why you will not be supporting designers who have their goods made in China? Is it just designer items or are you also not going to buy anything else made in China?

I live in the USA and 99.9% of everything I buy (and what is available) for daily use (necessities, etc) are all made in China.

I totally agree with this statement... Everyone has this insane issue with bags made in China but but almost eveything we wear or use is made in China so are we not going to buy a Top, Pants, Shoes, Pencil, Paper ect... because it is Made in China? Why are we not.. what is the real issue.. I have Coach bags Made in Italy, America, India and China there is no difference in any of them all have been made to Coachs specifications and they are all amazingly well made..

I think that if a bag is not good it is more the Designer, his Company and their Quality Control than were it is Made...

These have all been really good posts. And I realize that it is practically impossible to avoid purchasing something that has been Made in China. However it is possible to look for items that are Made in the USA and in other countries that pay a living wage and specifically purchase those.

Handbags and other luxury goods are good things to choose since we can save up & show designers that we don't want those items that are made in China. Both Coach & Rebecca Minkoff used to be made in the USA, I am sad that they both made the corporate decision to switch to Chinese manufacture.

I agree with the above

The whole made in China thing is a tough one.

People want a living wage here. Necessary. However, we have become accustomed to a higher standard of living in the US. So it takes more to cover a living wage.

Some companies might go out of business, or have to charge insanely high prices (and then go out of business lol) if they continued to manufacture in the US. Hmmm. It's a complex situation. I think more of a global thing....

I think about this, in regard to all products. It would be very hard to avoid anything made in China. However, I think about those workers and I feel bad. (The ones that are mistreated that is.) i have no idea how it is for all of them. I saw a documentary about this, and they showed people working and living like slaves. They recruited young people to work in these factories, and after working all day and all evening, they went to packed dorms to sleep in little beds. Most all of their life revolved around working in these factories, for peanuts.
Now, I have no idea if everything is like this....it was simply shown in a documentary. However, I hope for global change in which people are not treated poorly in the name of commerce.

Also, I am not saying everyone that works in factories is mistreated or enslaved.

Anyway, in the US, people are accustomed to owning homes, cars, only working 8 hour days and 5-day weeks, having health insurance, etc etc etc. I certainly support this - but the other countries don't have this and that's what we are competing with.

Hard to tell because you can't go by the Made in ___ label to determine where a bag is made.

Portions of the bag may have been assemblied in say China for example with the final finishing in Italy. Where the bag is finished is the country reflected on the Made in ___ label.

So the bag may have been completely assembed in China and a trim piece added on in Italy.... voila... the bag is labeled Made in Italy.

I check the tags on everything I buy...whether it be bags, clothes, shoes,..to mugs, sheets, cooking utensils to pot and pans...I check everything I buy where they are made...ESPECIALLY FOOD. If it says MADE IN CHINA OR MADE IN PROC, I WILL SIMPLY PUT IT BACK AND DO WITHOUT. If I can't afford the same item made in US or Europe, then I don't really need it. You will be surprised to find that a lot of food items come from china as well. I don't agree with these giant corporations trying to make every last dime on each sale by exploiting these smaller countries with cheap labor. Really...how much more profit do they need to make on each item? However, I will consider buying items made in Malaysia or India, etc...first before buying anything from China. At lease we have yet to hear that something made in these countries have been poisonous. I'm afraid that anything I wear that comes from China is poisonous and harmful to our bodies in some way or form.
