Maybe just have your SO buy a cute bauble in Spain for your finger?
You'll get a cute stand-in and a nice travel momento.

I rarely travel with big jewelry unless I can wear it the entire time.
It's not worth the worry/distraction. (This may be my personal strategy to collect little jewels.)

I like your thinking!! This may have to be my new strategy!!

Where will you leave it if you leave it home? In a safe deposit box in a bank I hope? Otherwise it's safer on you.

Yes, leaving my jewelry at home in NJ means it will go into the safe deposit box at our bank.. Leaving my home for a month is nerve wracking enough w/o worrying about my jewelry getting stolen!

I don't know if I'd want to leave it home for a whole month. You're not going to be out in the water the ENTIRE time. I don't know that I see your rental being as much a target that you couldn't leave it in there while you were out in the water for a couple of hours. You'll leave your purse there won't you? The ring is insured?

This. I wear my ring on holiday. My husband wears his also! Diamonds are the toughest stuff on earth I think too. Wear it and have a great time!!

I never travel with items I couldn't live without or replace if lost or stolen - insured or not.
As far a a CZ alternative goes, I've always been of the mindset that if I were being mugged for my valuables, seeing a huge CZ ring wouldn't deter a thief - how would they know if it was real or not, and why invite trouble? It only saves heartache from a break and enter theft or loss. I think a popular rule of thumb whilst travelling is to avoid drawing attention to yourself and your (relative) wealth; avoid being a target.
I would leave it at home - but I've been married for 25 years, so my perspective is probably a little different!

We were traveling all over Spain last year, and we left all of our jewelry at home to stay on the side of caution. We were visiting smaller towns with no problem, but it's on our last stop at Barcelona that my husband's cell phone got pick-pocketed on the metro. I guess it happens when you least expect it because we let our guard down towards the end of the trip. But I did see a lot of women with their wedding sets and they seem to have no concerns.

Bottom line, if it were to start all over again I would still keep all my valuables at home/safe for peace of mind ( and no CZ jewlery either since that might draw bad attention), and for cell phone or cameras I would always keep within reach/eye sight (never leave them unattended on the table). There are many articles online about theft in Barcelona. You can simply do a research and practice caution. Good luck!

Thank you for all your responses. I think I'm going to leave the e-ring safely tucked away at the safe deposit at the bank. The ring is insured but why even take the chance? i would be heartbroken to loose it..either by theft or lost stone in the water/sand. Either way, I have some time to decide.
I think I will just wear my plain band with my eternity ring. I can survive without wearing my ring for a few weeks. We are traveling w our 6 and 8 year olds so most of the time will be spent on the beach building sand castles.
Thank you all for your help!

Thank you for your reply. I have heard about high volume of theft/ pick pockets in Barcelona. I guess being from NYC, it really didn't phase me. However, we will surely keep our guard up with phones, cameras, wallets, etc. We have family in Barcelona and she hasn't mentioned this aspect of the city at all. We have been to Marbella and other towns on the coast but this will be our first time in Barcelona. Thank you for the heads up, much appreciated especially since we will be traveling with 2 young children. Makes me think even more that I should keep the expensive jewelry at home!

We went to Barcelona- among other places- for our honey moon, it is so beautiful, you will love it!

I only travel with my wedding band and a few pieces that can be easily replaced in case I lose them or get stolen, many times CZ or semi precious stones like amethyst or topaz. Nothing that will cost too much. About rings: I don't take rings with me because my hands tend to get swollen during travel and they bother me.

About safety in Spain: there is petty crime like everywhere in the world, but no muggings the way they happen in other places. They will not take your things on gun point, but they might steal a beach bag if left unattended on a chaise longue on the beach...
A big cz will not attract unwanted attention, if there are thieves they will notice your accents and behavior before they notice anything else, no matter how little or many cz you wear.

Have fun on your vacay and leave your expensive items back home so you can enjoy every moment!

I don't know how big your ring is, but personally I never take my ering off and take it with me everywhere. What's the point of having a ring if you're afraid to wear it :) But then, if you're not sure about taking it I would leave it and take a smaller ring or the wedding band only and as someone sugested, get a nice ring in Spain :)
