I am more peeved about their return policy: it takes FOREVER for the SA at Store X to call Sac, get the manager on the phone, explain it, etc.

And yes, I have voiced my opinion to the Sac manager

It's Nordstrom: to sell an item that can only be "credited" through one store, is just ridiculous, IMHO.

I totally agree with this. What can you do? lol. I asked why more Nordys weren't carrying it and two different handbag managers told me that they were "testing" the market to see how the store sold it. They were hoping to get more stores with them in, but for now... just Sacramento.

I have bought all of my Bals from Barbara at Arden Fair and I know she has two of my Credit Cards on file. But I think they are in a computer, not in a roladex. I think the return policy is bogus. I think if I took the bag to my local Nordstrom that they would have no problem returning it since it has the little bar codey thing on the back of the tag. But I always call for DHL pick up if I do return something. I don't want to piss off the system. You can't beat Nordies return policy which is why they will continue to have my business.

Depending on the SA.... I do allow my credit card to be put on file, but only for future purchases (i.e. my usual SA in the handbag dept that I've known for like 8 years). Usually they say.... do you want it on the card with the last xxxx digits? Anyway, I've been shopping at Nordys for years and thus far, haven't had any issues. I hope it stays that way. lol. :)

The thing that is disturbing is the "rolodex" - is that thing kept under lock and key at all times except when they are actively using it?

BalNY SAs also keep credit cards "on file" - because I know that my SA has mine. Not sure how they store the info.

I thought it was ALWAYS the policy at the Nordstrom Sac store that you couldn't return to any other Nordstrom. I think that whomever took your return at Pentagon City probably messed up ... or maybe they just don't have the checks and balances in place to prevent it from happening!

It's the second time I've returned a Bal bag to Pentagon City. Both times it took about 30 seconds and they gave me a receipt. But I think that you're right--the Pentagon City SA's aren't following the right procedure. My SA at Arden Fair had told me that any other nordstroms would need to call Arden Fair.

While the "calling Arden Fair" policy can be frustrating, I think it's necessary to avoid the return of fake B-bags at other stores where SAs are not familiar with the bags. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous people out there who are far too eager to take advantage of the system. After being presented with a fake B-bag pulled from the back at Neimans a couple of years ago I feel like stores need to take every precaution to protect us from the fakes and scammers.

Nordstrom has the same policy for Chanel bags--they have to contact a store that carries Chanel and process the return through that store. A hassle? Yes, but I feel a lot safer buying through Nordstrom due to this policy.

Keeping entire credit card numbers on file is a violation of PCI (Payment Card Industry) Compliance rules. These are rules set by VISA, MasterCard, etc., and they can/will fine any merchant caught violating the rules. It is a substantial fine, $5,000 to $10,000 per month for each month of non-compliance, so I am sure the Nordstroms store manager would appreciate hearing from you that his employees are exposing the company to potentially large liabilities.

Trust me honey, I go to nordstroms 3-4x a week to check out the b-bags and everytime I am there, If I see someone buying a b-bag, they go to the back room and bring back the black roledex thing and either pull out the customers card OR enter it onto a new card, CC + exp date.

omg the same thing happened to me with barneys!!! they took down my info so that they could 'charge it right away when the bag comes in so that it's reserved' and well they also keep your address in their computer system for returns and what not. well a month after i got my bag i ALSO got a fradulent charge on my card for $3000 for GODKNOWSWHAT. well luckily it was my amex and they were nice about removing the charge. i had to fill out a claim form, get a new card, sign an affadavit...but as long as the charge was remoevd, i didn't care. when i was looking for my chanel gladiators this SA (rude i might add..) kept asking me for my CC number and i told her to call me when she found it. she never did. not even to tell me she didn't find it. when she felt my resistence on giving it to her she got a little more upset, as did i. CCs are dangerous! i wonder how other companies would handle these claims..

No sure what type of legislation you guys have in the States, however in Australia we are protected by the Privacy Act which stipulates you are not allowed to keep that type of information on file, especially as anyone is privy to this information as it's in a roladex. Company and individuals are liable if they contravene this legislation and are up to some very hefty fines. It's unbelievable large reputable stores are behaving in this way. What part of not allowed do they not understand, it's breaking the law.

I don't understand how this policy prevents the returns of fakes: the SA that handles the bag isn't asked to authenticate it over the phone, they still take the bag back, it's just the return is processed through the Arden Fair store.

I was going to mention the exact same thing about BalNY. They have been doing this for years! I never liked this & questioned them about it too and was told "it was their policy."

Thanks for the information katmb! I had no idea there was a rule/law, although common sense tells me it's not a good idea considering all the rampant identity theft and this would leave the customer vulnerable to security risks and breaches.
