Most of them are turning me off these days. No one seems to be coming out with any designs that make me swoon. And some of the ones that do, I can't afford! And maybe it's due to hitting 40 this year, but I'm wanting more practical bags. I have back problems and can't lug a heavy bag anymore. I've pared down as much as I can and still can't get by on a tiny bag-- tiny bags look silly on me since I'm 5'9" and come from a long line of well-set Scottish women!

Nothing in Macy's thrills me. The Kate Spades are not practical for my needs and some of the higher-end designers are just overpriced. I love a label/name as much as anyone but I feel like a chump paying $500 for a bag that likely cost maybe $150 to make, y'know? I hate so many luxe brands are outsourcing to China-- how can they maintain their previous quality? I'd be OK with paying a lot for quality if I knew I was getting what I paid for, and nowadays I don't think I am as much.

That said, I just ordered a Longchamp le Pliage tote (did not pay full price) and hope it'll fit the bill for now. It's so hard to find that balance of quality, affordability and looks.

Welcome to the fab 40s! I turned 40 this year too  I am just getting into designer bags beyond Coach, which I only started carrying 2 years ago. I feel the same about the higher end bags I see in the stores, just not practical for me. The Burberry I have is the first bag with a retail over $500, though I got it on sale and with a discount so in the end it was around $400 and I'm thrilled with it for that price. There are a few bags out there that I would love to have, but I keep wondering if they are really "me" so I don't know if I should bother saving up or not?

I wouldn't say there's a particular brand I've fallen out of love with, but instead of sticking to one brand like I used to do, I have branched out to try many others and am a lot happier this way ;)

Wow! Really?!
I need to live where you live! I never see any Hermes here!
And I'm always looking. Mostly just Coach, LV, MK, and more Coach...

I see a lot of it here. Some of that is that the areas I frequent are wealthy, but its one of the many reasons I am turned off that brand-- including the snobbery in stores, low stock of items, and the type of person I now see getting the royal treatment in stores.

Personally, I tried to go cheap and do coach/dooney but I really couldn't stand buying items that go on sale/ end up in a pile on a folding table in a department store.

I recently bought a Frank Clegg tote (made right here by hand near Boston) and my work bag is a leather LLBean tote. I'm pretty content to get off the high fashion treadmill and back to my preppy roots. Turns out that $175 llbean tote had made me happier than any of my status bags. Live and learn.

LV for now but i'm sure i'll get it back sooner or later. I love the few LV pieces I currently own, but the prices are way out of my range right now to buy new at the boutique and honestly, it doesn't have that special feel that it used to have for me. If I do decide to go back, it'll be for a limited edition that i've saved a really long time to buy.

Ah, I love, love, love LL Bean!! And they have some really nice bags!
I only do vintage Coach because that was the last time they paid any attention to quality, and that vintage leather really does last a lifetime.
Yes, I'm really very over all the premium designers raising prices, lowering quality and playing marketing mind tricks to make people think they're still a luxury...

I like my leather field tote so much I bought the mini version to use as a handbag. I also bought a Maxwell scott flight bag as well.

I guess I forgot what real working leather and simple designs were but I am back wearing penny loafer, pearls, and carrying a plain leather tote and I am so happy with my simplified life!

And I have more money to spend on other things now.

Come to Asia, loads around and they are not fakes!

Ah! Drooling!!!
I have literally never seen one in real life!! :(
Not even a fake, though I consider that a good thing!
Though I suppose even if I did see a fake I wouldn't know unless it was a really terrible one. Lol!!!

I love the preppie comeback, being a child of the 80's though my personal style is more hippie/funky. But with bags I agree simple, good quality is key.
Okay, back to topic.
I actually feel kind of sorry for those who are just now discovering handbags... :(
You used to be able to get so much more for so much less!!
