I love the preppie comeback, being a child of the 80's though my personal style is more hippie/funky. But with bags I agree simple, good quality is key.
Okay, back to topic.
I actually feel kind of sorry for those who are just now discovering handbags... :(
You used to be able to get so much more for so much less!!

That is true. The price of bags like Chanel is just disgusting and even the prices for bags like the PS1 has practically doubled. Sickening. That's why I now carefully consider what I am buying and what the total piece of leather+design+ craftsmanship is really worth. I am over paying more for the name than any other part of the bag.

Ah, I love, love, love LL Bean!! And they have some really nice bags!
I only do vintage Coach because that was the last time they paid any attention to quality, and that vintage leather really does last a lifetime.
Yes, I'm really very over all the premium designers raising prices, lowering quality and playing marketing mind tricks to make people think they're still a luxury...

Totally agree with the love for LL Bean. I buy all my work clothes there - I'm a teacher and they are durable, reliable, comfortable and conservative. I have always loved their leather bags. A cousin works there, and gave LLBean bags to my grandmother for Christmas - perfect and timeless.

Also agree with vintage Coach - it's all the Coach I use.

I have fallen out of love with Coach lately. I may have reached my bag saturation. I own vintage Coach, Coach Legacy 65th Anniversary, Coach Bleecker, Coach Kristin. Poppy whipstitch hobo was the last Coach bag I purchased. I don't like the Coach and Buggy logo used on the Madison - the coach hangtag is enough for me. The new Legacy line should not even be called Legacy in my opinion - they are not made from the gorgeous vintage leather of 2006 and the quality has taken a nosedive in recent years. Coach needs to go back to making thick, high quality leather bags with diminutive logos to win me back. If they don't I have enough bags to last me a lifetime.

I also have a few Balenciaga, one Mulberry and a Gryson bag.

I fell out of love with Coach for awhile just like it seems like every person on this forum has, but I do like the Legacy line (and I'm not an old lady at all like someone mentioned lol) and honestly the customer service at my boutique is phenomenal. The guarantee is great and I have not had any quality issue that wasn't addressed immediately. I will NOT buy their MFF stuff, but the legacy bags are very classic and functional for me.

I fell out of love with COACH right after HS so that was about 6 years ago. I moved on to MK which I fell out of love with too about 2-3 years now. I moved on to LV by accident but that too is starting to reach its peak.

I agree with your description of chanel pricing. Disgusting is the correct word. For what you are getting lately $5000 for a flap is preposterous. I got a seasonal flap several months ago and that will be my only new purchase until there is a significant improvement in quality. The only thing that I might get in the future is a reissue tote, and even then, I will go the preowned route.
I also don't care for coach that much. It's a combination of the overabundance, the monogram lines, and the cheap look or some of the bags. I only have 3 leather bags and I am done for life as far as I know.
I've also bought my last jimmy choo for the very distant foreseeable future. The design and quality on a lot of the bags is mediocre for the price (especially for one that I paid $1700 for), and just not that well thought out for a supposedly high-end designer.

I've fallen out with MJ and Gucci merely for the fact that the designs lately haven't been up to heart's desire.

I also agree on Chanel. It's not that I've completely fallen out of love with it, but the price increase has really putting me off on considering any of their flaps. It's not like the quality can justify their increase...so I would rather buy preown since the quality was better back then than it actually is now.

Welcome to the fab 40s! I turned 40 this year too  I am just getting into designer bags beyond Coach, which I only started carrying 2 years ago. I feel the same about the higher end bags I see in the stores, just not practical for me. The Burberry I have is the first bag with a retail over $500, though I got it on sale and with a discount so in the end it was around $400 and I'm thrilled with it for that price. There are a few bags out there that I would love to have, but I keep wondering if they are really "me" so I don't know if I should bother saving up or not?

I wouldn't say there's a particular brand I've fallen out of love with, but instead of sticking to one brand like I used to do, I have branched out to try many others and am a lot happier this way ;)

Yeah, 40s hasn't been too bad so far.

So far I like the Longchamp I got last week. Very roomy and lightweight!

Any designer/label who's bags/products are "Made in China".

I made one exception for the Dooney & Bourke Florentine Satchel in Fuchsia (posted in my satchel family pic below) because the leather is superior quality & is processed in Florence, Italy & even though that bag was assembled in China, the quality of this bag surpasses designer bags of higher statuscost. Because of that bag, I think I may be falling in love with Dooney! I currently feel that I could never leave Gucci or LV though I don't care who or how many carries them & around here... it's not that many really, as Coach & Michael Kors dominate the scene.

I am a die hard Chanel fangirl but cannot get over the outrageous price structure of their classic flaps and reissues. I love now her designs have remained for 50+ yrs. In the recent years I have lost interest in LV ( sold my damier speedy 25). I do get self-conscious about using logo items for day/workwear so I stick to YSL nowadays. I would love to own an H but right now my lifestyle doesn't warrant it at all. Maybe 10 years from now.

I'm done with Coach and Michael Kors...or any brand that doesn't stand behind their products, for that matter. Actually, I've been over Coach for quite a while now.

I absolutely loved the old Coach bags because they were classic styles, very high quality and offered reasonable repairs. Since they began production in China, the quality is gone. I think many of the newer styles look cheap as well. And the last few bags that I sent away for very minor repairs were returned to me and deemed "unrepairable"...complete nonsense!
